Windows 11 RC Context Menu Quirks. No big deal. But MS would rather hire an architect.

Desktop Right-Click context menu -> New menu, when expanding downwards, is positioned correctly. Starts from top side of the New menu box. Reference white line in below screenshot.

When there's not enough space to display the menu BELOW, the UI has to move the list ABOVE.

In your example, the starting cursor location for opening a context menu keeps creeping downwards.

This is O.K. No problem for this behavior. It is expected.

The problem is the starting cursor point location.

If context menu opens downwards, the starting cursor point shoud always be the top side of the menu item box. If context menu opens upwards, the starting cursor point should always be bottom side of the menu item box, for the sake of consistency.

More options expanding context menu behaves correctly as I described above.

Thanks for your response. The RC context menu inconsistency is not enough reason to remove More Options section because I have added some menu items to that section. But the Brink's tutorial is informative and useful.

There's two arguments to be made:
1. After you're done with the cascading menu, the cursor should snap back to the original location where you opened the first menu.
2. The cursor should remain where you clicked on the cascading menu, because it's the last location touched by the user.

Given that Windows has picked option #2 for several decades it's unlikely they would change it (for backwards compatibility).

I checked this on my two computers, a desktop running the latest beta build and an ASUS laptop running the latest release preview build.

When right clicking 'New' option the menu always starts from the top as per the OP's first screenshot, regardless of where on the desktop I click.
