Hi all,

This issue happened to me a few months ago and randomly fixed itself, and now it's back again. On my personal user account, the search menu results are missing text and icons (picture attached). On my admin profile, it works perfectly fine. I've done everything from rebuilding the search index, resetting the app many times, stopping and starting the service, and copying folders/registry entries from my admin profile, nothing works. It seems no one has found a solution to this problem, so I did some digging. There's 1 thing that I've found an discrepancy with and don't know how to fix.

In HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search\ , SnrBundleVersion on the user account is listed as 2025.11.23.62639638, while on the admin account SnrBundleVersion is listed as 2026.05.11.68310217 . It would seem that it's pointing to an older bundle meanwhile they're on the same update. If I try changing the registry entry to the newer one, it just reverts back.

I'm not sure if this gives any clue or help to the issue, but thought I'd share in case someone could figure this out. Thanks!

Ron

On my admin profile, it works perfectly fine. I've done everything from rebuilding the search index,

Check if the affected user’s Search index or indexing settings are set to exclude the folders or file types for that profile. If not, did you rebuild the search index while logged into the affected user or your user?. Rebuilding a search index is per user, not per system.

Nothing is excluded, I rebuilt it on my user profile. It didn't change anything related to the search menu. The text is not being displayed correcty.

If the text appears correctly under one user but not another, IMO it points to some sort of corruption in that user account. This can be proven by creating a a brand new test account ,(it can be a local account), to see if it displays normally like the administrator account does.. You mentioned you had copied registry values (plural)from your admin account to this user. I would have advised against wholesale copying of registry values. No 2 user accounts are 100% exactly the same in the registry,. even more different if one account is an admin and the other is standard. So dependent on what values you copied, don't be surprised if you stumble onto something else that's wonky in this account.

I did find a copilot explanation of this and why the version numbers are different..
SnrBundleVersion refers to a specific version number for software components, often associated with Microsoft Edge or other app update packages, found in the Windows Registry. Different versions appear because apps can be updated separately, or installed uniquely per user profile rather than shared across the system.
Why Versions Differ Between User Accounts:
  • Per-User Installations: Software installed specifically for one user (AppData\Roaming) may update independently of the same software installed for "All Users" (ProgramData).
  • Update Timing: One user account might be active and receive an update, while the other is inactive, causing different bundle versions to exist temporarily or permanently.
  • User-Specific Configuration: If user profiles were created at different times or if one user has not launched a specific app that causes a version update, the registry keys in HKEY_CURRENT_USER will differ.
  • "Ghost" Profile Issues: A bug in Windows can sometimes create a temporary or duplicate user profile with different app settings. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
What It Is & What to Do:
SnrBundleVersion is typically found under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion. It represents a bundle version number used for tracking and updating software. [1, 2]
  • If both users see the same core application, this discrepancy is often just a cosmetic display issue and not a bug.
  • If you see "ghost" accounts causing this, netplwiz can be used to manage or remove them
Sorry, that's all the ideas I have or could find.
