Windows 11 setup on a laptop

I am trying to setup a brand new Lenovo laptop which has Windows 11 Home on it. The laptop is my kid's & I DO NOT want to create a Microsoft account on this laptop.

I select the Country (US), Keyboard Layout (US), Skip adding a 2nd keyboard, then I'm asked to connect to the internet.

Problem is that I cannot bypass this page & the Next button is greyed out, forcing me to connect.

Does anyone happen to know what I can do to bypass the internet connection & create a Local account on this laptop?

You can also use RUFUS to install Windows 11 and select the settings to bypass the Microsoft account setup.

Are you going to give your child full administrative privileges? How old is he/she? Depending on his age and if you want to limit his control, you might consider creating 2 accounts. One as administrator account that only you can get into and another for him either without administrative privileges or as a child account..

My kid (14) will be the only person using this laptop (unless she needs help).
I'm not concerned w/limiting her control, but I do want 2 Local accounts on the laptop (Administrator-rarely used & Standard-main account).

Tell it to log in with a microsoft account. Make up a username and password and it will say...whooops something went wrong and will let you create a local account.

Use something like [email protected], with a password of N0ns3nse!!

Ofcouse don't forget to disconnect from internet, if you leave internet on, windows detects that, and your not allowed to make offline account.

I've never disconnected my ethernet cable using the fake account and nonsense password option.

It’s actually quite simple,
Download RUFUS (it doesn’t install it just runs then is closed when you’re finished)
Download the Windows 11 ISO if you don’t already have it.
Use the tutorial, Point RUFIS to the ISO, set RUFUS the way you want it to create the USB
Boot to the USB, that’s it.

That should not matter. Not sure why you are not able to get it to work, I have tested it and it still works.

Make sure you dont have any extra spaces when entering OOBE\BYPASSNRO

I've tried that w/many different fake usernames & passwords, but it doesn't work for me.

The laptop keeps searching for wi-fi & I can't find a way to turn it off.

A desktop or laptop or tablet makes no difference. I mean no offense but whenever someone says the command doesn't work in my experience they are not entering it correctly.

Rufus is an easy way to bypass the requirements for the online account if you continue to have trouble. There is a simple checkbox for it.

Sometimes an OEM supplied Windows has an MSOOBE folder rather than OOBE.

If the OOBE\BYPASSNRO command doesn't work for you, then copy and paste the MSOOBE\BYPASSNRO command into the command prompt....

I mean no offense but they did not say the commands did not work, but that they could not get command prompt to open. That is probably because on some laptops you also have to press the FN key along with the function key.

Fair point. And yeah @Bree that is possible and is a good point as well. I just haven't run into a machine yet where that command hasn't worked.

I'm not taking offense to anyone's help & I give thanks to everyone's input.

I did make a Rufus installation USB & was going to try that.
But once I found out how to boot the laptop from the USB & about to start the install, I was asked which partition to use (there were 4 different selections).

When I do a clean re-install on my own desktop, I just wipe all partitions; not a problem to me.
But seeing as this is my daughter's laptop & I don't know which partitions may be important to the functionality of the laptop, I just quit the setup.
I decided to just go through the damn Microsoft Account creation w/her.

I am still planning to create a Local Administrator Account (for seldom usage) & a Local Standard Account (for everyday use).
Once I create these 2 accounts, can I delete the Microsoft Account profile on the laptop but she'll still have her Microsoft Account available; for times she may need it?

That is how I have my desktop setup. A Local Administrator Account (for seldom usage) & a Local Standard Account (for everyday use).
I do have a Microsoft Account (NO Microsoft Account profile on my computer) that I can access when I do need it (which is very rarely).
