Hello
I am running Windows 11 on unsupported hardware and have been for some time to get a feel for it before I upgrade the only machine I have that does have said hardware.
My query is I am getting security updates but they all have the same number - KB2267602 and then a version number behind that see pic
I ma just wondering if this is a normal thing to happen in viewUPDATESX.png that the KB2267602 has now been downloaded and installed 50 times!

That's normal. It's the security intelligence update which always has the same KB number, but if you look at the description you will see that the version number changes each time.

You should get new updates on or about patch Tuesday, the next of which will be on April 12.

You can prove anything with statistics. Without knowing what hardware was used, those results are meaningless, and frankly I do not believe them.

This article contradicts that article.

I find Defender to be very non intrusive, and uses minimal resources.

in the past. not anymore. I don't use them though because Norton = full of bloatware system optimizers and browser extensions. McAfee has no feature to whitelist files/folders + bloatware

I've tested it on many machines, all my laptops are high end laptops with the fastest SSDs and whatnot and fully tweaked OS. Just to give you an example, I have a folder which has all my software EXE setup files. In that folder, I have a lot of subfolders of portable apps such as CCleaner, HiBit Uninstaller, CPU-Z, etc. Each of those folders have a custom icon.

With Windows defender enabled, those icons load in slow motion every time. With any other AV they load and show up instantly.

The biggest performance issue with windows defender is it keeps scanning the same files over and over again with no whitelisting feature as in with ESET NOD32. NOD32 for example will never rescan a file that has been scanned before unless its digital file hash has changed.

That's just one small example, let alone the much longer time it takes to install big apps such as Adobe suite or others.

AV-TEST is BS. Look at their tests, 90% of the AVs according to them have 6/6 in the performance category which is pure BS.

fully tweaked OS - issues hmmmmm.

How come I never get the issues you get?

My apps open just as quick with Defender on or temporarily off.

No whitelist you say?

You don't understand the difference between whitelist and exclusions. Exclusions mean the file/folder is never scanned which my be a risk unless you're 100% that a file is safe. Whitelist means the files are scanned but once a scan is done, unless the file digital hashes change, they will not be scanned again making the antivirus seem super light as if it wasn't even there.

You keep using your heavy Windows defender while I enjoy the lightest AV ever.... you guys are probably smarter than the security gurus at AV-Comparatives:

That's normal. It's the security intelligence update which always has the same KB number, but if you look at the description you will see that the version number changes each time.

You should get new updates on or about patch Tuesday, the next of which will be on April 12.
Thanks mate as long as it is normal I won't be concerned about it and it will be interesting to see if that Cumulative update comes though on the 12th of April as I think I have had a good run with the unsupported hardware with security stuff although it would be nice for it to continue for a while longer yet as I am just getting the hang of this OS. Thing is I would get a security suite if I thought the support was going to continue for a long time although I find that Eset Smart Security my current software on my 10 machines is not offered the same way pity because I find it so good.

That's how you measure the heaviness of an Antivirus? You're some pro man! ROFLMAO! Good for you, keep using it.

Just as an aside: The antivirus and malware detection job is an extremely active job. Microsoft often puts out AV / Malware releated updates several times a day :-).

Ok mate have got that and I have found that for those who are still intent on having a dedicated security suite that Bitdefender now put out a brand new free security suite and I have it on the machine right now though I am tempted to buy the full version as they have discounted it substantially. I am only concerned really on banking while using my machines and why I am wanting a dedicated security suite on those machines I bank through only because I am not so sure the Windows security is strong enough.
