I had checked for Updates and on the Settings Page (Updates Needing Attention).. Pressed Updates, it went on & on & on.. Finally got a notice that as of Oct 8th whatever version I have (22H2) , Microsoft was not giving out anymore Updates ?? So tried updating to 23H2 (KB5044288) Took Eons to do the Download & Update only to come back NOT UPDATED.. Help, Thoughts & Opinions appreciated.. I do know the Old Version of Outlook Mail is all but finished and Gone.. Cheers Thanks

Before updating to Windows 11, version 23H2 using an enablement package, you must be running Windows 11, version 22H2. You must have the following prerequisite installed before applying this update:

For "updates" things are fairly simple. Just download the latest one and install.

But for "Feature Upgrades", (like 22H2, 23H2, 24H2... etc.), there are specific ways to do them.



It would also help, if you could list your computer specs, so we can easily determine things like...
will there be any compatibility issues to consider.

could be you just found out what I did, if your computer age is 2018 or older only updates you will get is Secuity updates only. There is a security chip called TPM that has to be version 2.0 my laptop was made 2018 its can't be updated anymore.
1) Right click start button far left on task bar reviles power strip
2) look down strip for RUN
3) in box type- tpm.msc
4) press ENTER
it will tell you value like tpm 1.2 two or nothing if its 1.2 0r nothing your issue its too old for any other updates except security updates. But if you do have TPM 2.0 there is another issue maybe your update has a error that needs to be fixed or cleared. My case I had to buy a new laptop. You could use Copilot that is on the upper right-hand corner of Edge task bar. I use it a lot has taught me a lot if have been using computers since 1994. Tell Copilot what is wrong it will suggest what to do.

As you have found out, 22H2 has reached end of servicing and will get no more updates....

Actually, it doesn't matter whether the laptop is supported or not, the small Enablement Package installs like a cumulative update, making no checks for compatibility. Once installed the 22H2 will become 23H2 and continue getting updates until 23H2 reaches end of support on Nov 11, 2025.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    Info for 2021-2026:
    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, 1920x1080 touchscreen, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine. As its new home has an existing digital licence for Pro I've been able to upgrade the migrated OS from Home to Pro.

Easy directions...

This will work for anyone on Win 11 22H2, that wants to go from 22H2 to 23H2.




Go here, and download the update that's at the very bottom of the list, and save it to your desktop.
The one at the bottom, is for normal AMD or Intel CPUs.


Then double click the file you just downloaded to install. If you get a message like: That's already installed... that's OK.



After that's done, just download and run the Enablement Package...

Then you'll be on 23H2.
Check for updates, and install whatever Windows Update finds. :-)

An unsupported device can, with a few workarounds, be upgraded to any current build of Windows 11, Insider or General Availability, and will get all the same cumulative updates as a supported device. I have 24H2 running well on my System Two with its 1st gen i5, legacy bios, an MBR install, and only TPM 1.2. It also multi-boots the latest Dev and Canary Insider builds. The only thing that would stop a PC running 24H2 would be if the cpu is so old that it doesn't have the SSE4.2 instruction set. For example, my 1st gen i5 does, an older Core Two Duo doesn't.

When you are presented with a list of updates start with the oldest pick maybe 4 or so get those done and so on.
The reason for that is some updates require previous ones to be done.

You may find as you do this more updates may appear as machine info is sent to MS.
Trying to shorten this by ignoring some required updates will get you stuck.
