Get this message when trying to install Windows 11 work around on Acer laptop.

Stop code: ATTEMPTED WRITE TO READONLY MEMORY

That's likely from an incompatible driver you have installed (before the upgrade). Check if your laptop has newer drivers available from Acer.

What's annoying though is that I have recently successfully installed Windows 11 on laptops older than that!

You can always try Windows X-lite versions that will install on older pcs

Hi Dannydet decided against the Windows X-lite versions as they require a clean install and many security features and options are not included in these versions.

To install on your Acer you must use a workaround to bypass TPM and CPU restriction.
Use Rufus to build the Win 11 USB installation drive.

If you've had this laptop running an earlier version of Windows for some time, a clean install is a really good idea in any case.

If you create the USB using RUFUS, and you select the correct choices after start, you can do an in place upgrade (Option 2) and keep all your stuff.


  • Create the install media with RUFUS.
    • #1 Direct RUFUS to your USB
    • #2 Direct RUFUS to the ISO
    • #3 should sort itself out
  • When instigating the creation of the media and after clicking “Start”

Or, I believe, you can just open File Explorer and use the Setup/install .exe from the USB. Which is how I believe I did it, it was a while ago,
Disable the internet or tell the upgrade process “NOT” to check for upfdates.

Sure, In the first screenshot, #1 Tell Rufus where your USB is, with #2, direct RUFUS to the ISO. The rest in the first screenshot should sort itself out, click start

In the second screenshot, as the system is unsupported, then you need to tick the remove requirement for TPM2.0
The local account option is up to you, for me, I use a Microsoft account so that isn’t ticked. Nor is the create user account option for me

Also, I would disable bitlocker.

Whats the exact model of the Laptop? (Underneath)

You can bypass TPM2.0 requirements, but if the CPU doesn't have SSE4.2, you’re plumb out of luck. There is no bypass for that.

That’s only if you’re upgrading to 24H2, 23H2 doesn’t really care.
I have a copy of 23H2 on my server if you want a link.
