Windows 11: Windows fails to respect the “Never combine” property in the task bar,

I couldn’t figure out why Windows fails to respect the “Never combine” property in the task bar. How such property can be set?

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

TaskbarGlomLevel DWORD

0 = Always combine, hide labels

1 = Combine when taskbar is full

2 = Never combine

The native W11 Taskbar does not behave in the manner which users are accustomed to.
Many users have resorted to installing a 3rd party utilities to re-enable the classic functionality of the Taskbar.

Research exhaustively and use alternative utilities at your own risk! Always backup your system!

Why does windows 11 offer less functionalities to what used to be in the earlier releases?

If you want a 3rd party app to give you the classic taskbar and/or context menu try either ExplorerPatcher or Winaero Tweaker

But how come there is no settings at the level of registry and group policy that can manage this issue?

There are a lot of "internal" differences Between 10 and 11 and a lot of tweaks and things are no longer available to change. The taskbar was one of the big points of win11 so MS do not want people changing it, hence the lack of options to customise

Though I don't have any show stopping issues with the taskbar as is (it's not great but I can live with it), I do hope Microsoft takes heed in all the complaints about the taskbar and fixes them. Mainly drag and drop shortcut pinning for me

I liked the layout in 11 because I use Openshell, so I got a start button in the middle and one to the left, one custom and one not. I went for ExplorerPatcher for a couple of reasons, adding taskbar toolbars and being able to use a custom clock, both were important to the way I work. Couldn't get on with the new context menu though as I use that so much and the more options really slowed me up

I couldn’t figure out how to take the advantage of ExplorerPatcher in order to apply the “never combine” option

If it is is installed, right click on the taskbar and select properties, top option on the left called taskbar and click on the two options indicated by the red arrows to change them
