I think Windows ask for your age on a clean installation or upgrade using the ISO. Not when using the 26H2 Enablement Package to switch to 26H2. Even then it will only ask the first time you try to access a restricted service or purchase an app from Microsoft Store. Not right away.

You can also block on SNI level (Server Name Indication) then it dont matter if they manage to activate DoH, the websites will be blocked anyway. This is how ISP's and countries block domains.. as UK have blocked the image hosting platform Imgur. To bypass that you need a VPN.. if the kids only have user privileges they cant install a VPN on their device

Just lie. I've never felt guilty about lying to a machine. Any human entity that wants to know my age can ask me face-to-face. I think MS has me on record for being 102 years old.

The person that sets up the computer has to give the user's birth date. If they are an adult and they create user accounts later do they have to give individual birth dates for the new users? I think it is a big sham. Children will do like they have always done. They will lie when giving their birth date. I bet after January 1, 2027 they will be amazed that all the computer users are 21 years old and older!

Another thing is penalties. Does California really think they can impose civil penalties on people that live in the other 49 states? Good luck with them trying that. Another reason to move out of California.

Good luck trying to bypass parental controls on Android. It is impossible when setup right. Either the controls work or one has a brick of a phone.

How do I know this? Because I've been using this feature for ages, and almost got in trouble when I tried to disable it on an old phone I wanted to reset for my own purposes. Took several passes of parental account logins and F2A verifications.

If Android/Google can do it then MS should also be able to do it so that any parent can set this up with a few button click. Or are they so far deep into vibe coding already that nobody has the skill to do such thing anymore?

All that you describe are too advanced for the average user to do. Even I didn't understand some of it.

To set up a DNS in the router, that is easy on most routers. as people using Google 4.4.4.4 or 8.8.8.8 cloudflare is just another one.. and with better privacy.
So that one can be easy to guide people how to.

The other one.. use SNI for blocking even browsers/systems running DoH.. yeah, that one is more complicated and more for nerds.

Avoiding enterprise firewalls you need at least Raspberry Pi or a small NUC or similar to set it up.... But yeah that is nerd level, but not really-really hard.. Level as install windows 3.11 and remember highmem commands in config.sys.. or install Debian with LUKS.
If you just have a good guide to go after, it can be as easy as install windows11 home with local account.

Now its time for me to try to get to bed.. it's after 7AM over here. :yawn:
