How do I know this? Because I've been using this feature for ages, and almost got in trouble when I tried to disable it on an old phone I wanted to reset for my own purposes. Took several passes of parental account logins and F2A verifications.

If Android/Google can do it then MS should also be able to do it so that any parent can set this up with a few button click. Or are they so far deep into vibe coding already that nobody has the skill to do such thing anymore?

It used to be easy enough to "jail break" phones -- however for ages now the phones become useless since any sort of commercial app you might want to use on these phones e.g e-commerce / online shopping, bank account, paying taxes etc etc block "jail broken" phones.

I doubt with the newer phones whether it's even possible any more unless you build one yourself from scratch !!!!

You'd have to be a brilliant engineer and be able to source all sorts of ARM type chipsets -- the end cost would probably be horrendous too !!!.

Sourcing the screen would also be a bit of a problem as well -- not the same as having a broken / cracked screen on a current mobile repaired / replaced since all the connections etc are there and you'd need very specialized equipment to solder those micro sized connections.

My old Huawei running Android 8.0 could not be rooted. I didn't dare to try rooting my new Xiaomi HyperOS 3.0 (based on Android 16) phone, probably is not possible since at least Android 8.0 unless you have an virtually unknown brand.

Yeah, I heard about this in Level 1 Techs. They were debating on how long it would be before gov. would be putting the thumbscrews to Linux as well.

Personally, I don't think the real motive behind this is to protect children. The real reason is to get everyone's personal credentials in a universal data bank. A bit like having a criminal record even if you are a law abiding citizen. This is precisely what Edward Snowden was trying to warn people about.

they can never get to most Linux distributions as there is no one to hold responsible.
Ubuntu, RedHat, PopOS and 2-3-4 more have a company behind. But the rest is totally community driven and no one is the boss and therefore no one can be dragged to court or be fined.
So the only thing they can do is to forbid Linux in those states and fine all people using it.

.... yeah.. as far i know only three-four-ish distros is created for hacking that contains real good tools. Then its always smaller ones, as everything is forks upon forks in the Linux world

As I have pointed out in various threads, I am a Windows fan, I don't like Linux, but I believe that everyone has the right to decide which OS uses in his own home computer. Even create his own OS if he wants. No Government can tell my which OS I run on MY computer, which games or apps I use. If I use illegal apps, then they can fine me for breaking Copyright, IF they can prove it, but they cannot check my home without a Warrant, so how would they know what OS I am running? As you know you can spoof the browser User Agent or whatever else to seem you are running Windows while you run Mac OS or Linux. How can they know? They can't without physically visiting our homes and checking.

Govt. offs. have no clue what they're talking about. Ofc it can be used for that and there is a reason why it is one of the best options if you wanna do something in the grey or other shady area.

Windows nor MacOS are definitely not up to the task if you wanna be 100% certain your identity is hidden.

Also on Linux all the tooling is all there when you need it. And you have full control of everything.

Also the reason why Linux or UNIX-like OSes are used in most servers and almost any network related hardware that should be secure.

I'm not a linux fan, I'm not a windows fan and I'm not a MacOS fan, so i dont promote one over the other.. they all sucks in different ways.

You don't even need the internet. Back before the internet hackers would do a procedure to call anyone for free or make him/her pay for the call. I don't remember exactly, I am not that old, I had read about it, but it was done. Some time there was even a Windows utility that you could use to make "free calls".

Yeah i learned how to make free calls from phone booths (i had a relative that worked on the phone company)..... and as the statute of limitations have passed by twice i can confess to that i even in the 90's then had a phone booth just outside my apartment building.. so a friend and me hooked up a wireless home-phone base station in the inner roof of that booth so we could make free calls from inside my home.. It took almost two years before they discover it.

The first half of the 90's was fun for real.

the second part too... at least until 97 or if it was 98.. then it became a fast stop of all "fun" stuff.. and after that i almost became an angel.

except for speeding now and then with my summer car.

oh-yeah, i totally agree

Its not the OS its the tools you have and your knowledge that make the hacks.
Everyone can install Kali-linux or ParrotOS and they do have OS made for pentesting(hacking) with a ton of tools... But they also need to know how to use them.

Everyone can buy a super track racing car with 1000HP even without a drivers license.. but it dont mean they even can make one lap without crashing the car.
