Windows login locked out after bios update TPM related?

Try removing the pin and see if passwords works

*be sure you browse to the correct user’s appdata*
That is assuming I can login using the password though right? Sadly I can't get into the account with the password, there is no prompt for a pin either, the pin icon asks me to enter a password to setup windows hello for a pin so I don't believe there is one setup anymore

@mysticninja
I doubt you will ever get back into that account since you wiped the TPM info when you updated.

Lots of things are encrypted by the TPM and the keys used for that encryption are now gone.

That's why I suggested creating a new account.

You could try a repair install:

I'm not sure how successful that would be though

I really hope that's not the case :( I did try a USB boot drive to recover although it says startup repair couldn't repair your pc, thank you for the link though

no do it from your local admin. thats why i said browse to the correct user's appdata. try it to see if removing the pin will allow the password login to function properly.

FIRST, try this:

re enable the netplwiz check box:

then highlight your user account, uncheck that box and it will prompt for your password. then reboot and see if it will auto login to your account

I don't have any checkbox for my main user, it is allowing me to enter the password now though so it knows it's correct but it then throws the message:

It loops on that window and skipping makes me sign in again.

I did delete the NGC folder although that didn't change anything sadly. Thanks

How do I make sure I'm browsing the correct user as the post shows the directory:

C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local\Microsoft

Under my user I can't see any folders that would match that, sorry if I'm not following here

you would go to C:\users\YOURNAME\.... just don't browse into C:\users\Administrator

Sounds like another reason to NOT use a Microsoft account to log in to your PC.

Yeah lesson learned on my end, only done it as my license was tied to my MS account 😔

try something for me - log in as the administrator, create a new user account and try to create your microsoft account again. if it will duplicate it, we can symlink them and redirect to the original profile

No worries I just tried that although it says " EMAIL.com has already been added to this PC."

rename the user profile of your original and then readd it with the same password/pin. if it lets you, we can redirect it to the old profile path

It doesn't unfortunately let me create a new user with that email even if I rename the users folder name for that main account, and under user accounts if I change the username there

Is there a way to create a new user and then just copy over my data to that new account so I don't lose anything? I think I'd rather have a local account now after this anyway 🥲 but my main concern is losing files and session data from Firefox due to tabs ect from my work

you can transfer all of that, but it'll be a little tedious. give me a few more mins to research another alternative to backdoor into your Microsoft account

once we get you in, you can convert it to a local account and be all set
