10-15 days ago I updated my system to 24H2, is it advisable to delete the Windows.old folder which "weighs" 33+ GB?

If you grabbed everything you need from windows.old... you can safely delete it.

That 20GB... IS the windows.old folder.

Windows.old will be deleted automatically after a couple of weeks. You can't delete it by normal methods, but you can with Disk Clean-up.

You can also press the Windows key + I. In Settings/System/Storage turn Storage Sense on. Let it scan and click on Cleanup Recommendations.

If sfc /scannow shows no issues then I delete the previous installation.

I always remove Windows.old immediately.
I've never discovered that I need it later.
If something bad did happen, I'd restore an image.

Just a note, disk cleanup is going to be deprecated.

You should be using the new settings panel as the thread poster did under settings > storage > Temporary files to remove old files.

I know it's not technically on the list of features being removed, but it's coming at some point. Might as well start using the new settings panel. The settings panel is getting updated and improved, the older control panel items are not.

Keeping the old stuff around is a lot to maintain, and also patching for security flaws and the like. You get the same functionality in the settings panel. No need to have the old disk cleanup.

Control panel and other older menus are going to go away at some point. I would get used to the settings panel and use that more.

In software you cannot leave unsupported stuff just laying there. Everything needs to be in active development and maintained or patched.

Have you met the average consumer? They barely understand how to get to settings in the first place or how to use a computer properly at all. If they come across a scary warning telling them it might not work they will probably ignore it and complain anyway, or get scared by the prompt and never touch any setting ever again.
