No-one said anything about being from IT. It was an off-the-shelf OOBE proprietary brand purchase from an Australian electrical products chain store that I wouldn't send my worst enemy to. I suspect the purchaser might have been given a bum-steer (they're infamously renown for that) about what was involved in the hope he'd have to come back and pay for a re-setup. It was a new replacement for a device he'd had been using for several years, so he was not unfamiliar with computer usage, just unfamiliar with the implications of slavishly following Microsoft's and other software predatory marketing, without the faintest clue how to back-track out of what already had been done. Utilitor emptor.

What the heck has this "IT" got to do with anything? It was a private purchase for personal use and reasons. There is no "IT", it's not on a network (other than the common ole bog-standard internet(work)) with a personal and private ISP account.

Hope that clarifies the bleedin' obvious ....

perhaps. I am a dumb american lol so when I hear colleague I only think of work.

Could be that. its all good. Language and all that. I always heard us americans only assume its something in the way we understand and tend to not think about other countries and languages/slang/phrases etc. Which is a fair point. We should.

By reading your other post I now understand that it is a personal laptop and not a company laptop. The way you first posted, it does sound like a company computer given to a coworker.
