Windows Update to Unsupported Hardware

I have installed windows 11 21h2 on my desktop without any problem. Any other version of windows 11 causes BSOD on installation. I have followed the whole process with Rufus. If I stay on this version what is the problem. I appreciate any help, advise.

Security is the main problem because 21H2 is no longer supported.

Even older computers have been installed succesfully win 11 23H2 as I see in net. Notice that this happens and in clean installation not only in upgrades.

It's easier doing a clean install.


"Download" the 23H2 Win 11 ISO.
Then use RUFUS to create the bootable Win 11 installation media, which will bypass the hardware requirements.

Have you tried using the KB5027397 enablement package? The worked for me on an old Core2Quad machine.

You need to be on 22H2 to use the Enablement package.

In the Taskbar search box type: winver ...and post your "OS Build" number.


For example... my OS Build number is 22631.4037

To post a screenshot on this forum...​

Your Core2 Quad lacks the SSE4.2 instruction set, so it won't be able to run 24H2.

HERE TO DEFINE SOME ANSWERS

1. WINDOWS VERSION: Windows PRO 11 21H2 OS BUILD 22000.2538
2. This happens in clean installation too, not only in updates.
3. I do not have any problems to bypass hardware requirements. I am a step forward. I have other problems.
4. It is a pity for my cpu that run win 11 pretty fast to stay out of updates. I want something to do.
5. Bios unfortunately is the last version of the Asus motherboards AMI 1101.
6. I7 870 is capable of SSE4.2 technology.

A minor request: please don't SHOUT.

That's a pretty old system, but it's not obvious why it wouldn't work.

Have you experimented with an installation on a stripped-down system? (Motherboard, RAM, CPU, graphics card, and OS drive.)

I heard MS pushed a more updated iso of 23H2 so no more install on older hw is this true

That is not an Intel Core 2, that is a 1st gen Intel Core from Q3'09 which was the first generation to include SSE4.2. The Core 2 range pre-dates that and has no SSE4.2.

I have installed without WiFi card and usb device. I have also an Ide connection disk that i have not try anything. If I will do a hardware upgrade it will os win 12. But I will never realise why we force to do it.Really appreciate all the answers.

Sorry if it is already suggested, I didn't read all posts. The 23H2 Enablement Package works only if you already run 22H2 build 22621.1506 or higher, it doesn't work in 21H2. You can upgrade an unsupported computer from 21H2 directly to 23H2 if you download the ISO. Here is the official Microsoft download site: Download Windows 11 scroll down to third option (download the ISO directly) or use the Media Creation Tool to create the ISO (NOT upgrade directly). After you have the ISO you can manually replace a specific temporary file (see relevant threads) or you can use Rufus to create a patched USB flash drive with the compatibility check disabled. BUT, running Setup from the patched USB flash drive is not enough in 23H2. You must also disconnect from the internet and stay offline until the upgrade is complete because otherwise a hidden online compatibility check makes the process fail at about 70-75% before even the first restart! Staying disconnected from the internet prevents this hidden check and Setup completes the first stage successfully and restarts to the next stage. Also you prevent Windows Update replacing your working drivers and causing incompatibilities or even BSOD. After the whole process is complete and you successfully see the desktop, you can safely reconnect to the internet and install all updates (no further compatibility check is done). I have upgraded mu unsupported PC (2nd system specs) successfully up to build 22631.4037, no issues so far

To check your version go to Settings -> System -> Info or press Win+R and execute winver to see the Windows version window.

But the KB5027397 enablement package is to take 22H2 to 23H2. Nothing to do with 24H2, right?
