I keep getting message that Windows Update "something went wrong...try again later" Any advice?...Thanks!

Thanks...I tried that troubleshooter. It says to the right "pause for seven days"....I don't want tp pause for seven days. How do I disable that?

Use Windows Update Troubleshooter.


  • Right-click on Start button and pick Settings
  • Go to System > Troubleshoot
  • Click on Other Troubleshooters > Windows Update and click Run button.



Download Windows updates manually.


  • Go to the official Microsoft update catalog;
  • Enter a specific update code, for example, KB4481031
  • Select the correct version and click Download
  • Click on the link and Windows will update your computer



Resetting the Windows Update components can usually solve these types of issues.

You don't need to pause, that option has got nothing to do with solving update errors

What is the update that's causing the problem (e.g. KB number, driver name, ??) ?

@FreeBooter advice in post #4-reset windows update.

Why is it happening you ask. Stuff just does.We do not always know the why. Sometimes files get corrupted.

If resetting WU doesn't work,
Open a command prompt as administrator and type sfc /scannow
Pay attention to the scan results to see if SFC found anything it could not repair. If it found corruption it could not fix followup with this command (note the spaces)
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
Restart computer

(Note-you can follow up with another sfc /scannow command to make sure that dism repaired the files)

Thanks...did all the above but the update page keeps scrolling. Does this mean there are no current updates? Also, is there way to check and install updates for Win 11 on line?

I don't know what you mean when you say "update page keeps scrolling." If you go to settings>windows update, outstanding updates should be listed unless you have windows update turned off. You can check for updates at any time.

Also from the windows update page, you can select Advanced Options>Optional Updates to see any outstanding updates you can select to install at your disgression. Driver updates are there as well.

No, there is no way to go on line and do a 'check for updates.' Windows Update does that for you. However, any particular update can be downloaded and installed manually by going to Microsoft Update Catalog. Enter the KB number of the whatever update you want in the search box. updates.'Microsoft Update Catalog

Yes...Definitely. But I just discovered that the 'optional updates' on this Win 11 can be found by typing in 'optional updates' in the 'find a setting' box... upper left. Kind of hidden from the general view for some reason.
