WMP does not show artist and song titles

Hello all. I was going to rip some cds just to find out that MS took away the feature that puts the info on. Has everyone experience this? What are people using now to rip cds? Will Roxio Creator NXT5 work? I'm thinking about getting NXT Pro9. They have it for an excellent price right now.
  • Microsoft discontinued the online CD metadata service that Windows Media Player Legacy and the new Media Player relied on to fetch track names, album details, and cover art.

Works perfect for me in legacy WMP, Gracenotes in my Focus picks up track info and trackart just fine..

foobar2000, but, you have to add metadata manually, it's real easy though!

Windows Media Player Legacy still might, but, I haven't tried it in ages!

I use FreeAC, usually fairly successful at pulling up the artist info.
Foobar should ask if you want to download metadata first time you rip a disc. Just picked up an Orbital CD i tried on my spare machine.

I used both, legacy and new and both do not work.

I've had it since forever. I believe it was since win98. I have always used it. MS supplied.

No. It has just been there with every version of windows I've been on since Win98. I tried to look at what version it is, but can't locate it.

As @Try3 & @Edwin mentioned, there are many better options out there.

@Hughbris is right, foobar can fetch the metadata upon rip, except the album art...
I usually get the album art straight from a YT video frame, especially if it's the artists official channel, then you get a nice hi-res 1080X1080 image...

Of course, if you want a utility that will do all the work for you, then yeah, a tagging app might do..., but, I've found that often those apps will assign some obscure import version of the album art, which looks like crap! 🤷‍♂️

I really don't use the new version much, a lot of my tracks are in FLAC format and new don't play them so it's pretty useless for me.

So often it seems, to me anyway, many UWP apps appear to be dumbed-down versions of what used to be decent quality software! 🤷‍♂️

I'm looking for a Windows 11 CD player to replace Windows Media Player that displays tracks.

Windows Media Player was intuitive, but others I've tried are problematic under Windows 11:

- Windows Media Player Legacy = U/S
- MusicBee/VLC Media Player = counter-intuitive
- PowerDVD doesn't display tracks
