Would Like Helpful Opinion The The Following Laptops

@badrobot not so much worried about the screen size, but anything above a 13 would work, more concerned about the components...graphics, processors as im only a little familiar with them. Are either of the 2 possible computers have those features you mentioned (at least i7 and maybe a 4050 gpu) or should I keep looking (which I can't seem to help myself from doing)
The Dell 16" has the 4050 gpu option. The thing is, you are not allowed to choose 32GB of RAM unless you selected the 4060 gpu. So, if you prefer the 32GB RAM, then choose the 4060 gpu option. I would recommend 32GB of RAM. And at 32GB, you don't need to worry if it is soldered. That's all you need.

4060 is slightly ahead of the intel arc graphics performance-wise, but in terms of value, intel arc graphics wins.

I've had 6 Dell laptops in the past 20 years and have always been thoroughly pleased with both the quality and support.
@Hazel123 @TraderGary @glasskuter @andrew129260

Good afternoon everyone, I think Im close, maybe, hopefully:geek:

Dell Inspiron 16 Plus | Dell USA

Inspiron 16 Plus Laptop Model: 7640

Ok so what what is your opinion(s)/consensus on this laptop configuration, what am I missing or should I take into consideration?

Does bumping up the RAM to 32GB down the road mess anything up compatibility wise?

The configuration is 16GB DDR5 according to its AI assistance it is upgradable to 32GB, which I can do later.

1 TB storage,

Intel® Core™ Ultra 7 155H (24 MB cache, 16 cores, 22 threads, up to 4.80 GHz Turbo)

NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 4050, 6 GB GDDR6

If I bump up the RTX to 4060 it bumps the storage up to 2 TB and also costs a lot more

To be honest, I don't appreciate how Dell controls the specs. They have specs options but it controls how much you can change to stay within the price range. I personally never buy Dell or HP.
If you have fixed budget, you don't have to worry about the specs then because if you change the specs, it will change the price. Just follow the price. I am sure whatever you end up with, you will be happy.

It looks good to me. You could upgrade both the ram and storage later if you need to. I'm not sure it's worth bumping the price up a lot for the extra graphics, from what you described you want it for.

It looks to be an extra $500 dollars for the upgraded graphics, 32gb ram and 2tb storage.

You can buy a good samsung 2tb drive for about $177

Samsung Evo 970 plus 2tb

The maximum memory for that machine is 64gb and no extra ram won't affect anything at all or glitch anything - you'll just notice the odd tasks being slightly zippier.

It currently has 2 x 8gb ram sticks. To replace those with 2 x 16gb ones (to give 32gb) of crucial ram would cost about $125

So your upgrades would cost about $300. Meaning if you got the higher spec machine you'd be paying $200 dollars more for the higher graphics. Personally I'd go with the option you chose and upgrade ram and storage as and when you need it.

Having said that, if you went for the Intel Arc graphics option it would save you $200 which would pay for the 2tb drive :-)

Are you planning to do any gaming? If not then I think the Arc graphics would be fine. You'd also have less issues with nvidia driver upgrades in future!

If, for any reason, you're not pleased, you can return a Dell purchase within 30 days for a full money back. Contact Dell, they ship a return kit, and Dell even pays the return shipping. How's that for a manufacturer's confidence in their product?

To be honest, I don't appreciate how Dell controls the specs. They have specs options but it controls how much you can change to stay within the price range. I personally never buy Dell or HP.
If you have fixed budget, you don't have to worry about the specs then because if you change the specs, it will change the price. Just follow the price. I am sure whatever you end up with, you will be happy.
so what do you think of those specs and the other questions i asked above. I understand how you feel about Dell/HP

Any store accepts a return. They have no choice but to be competitive.
But how many give a FULL money back? And how many pay return shipping?

I returned a defective ASUS once, I had to pay for the return shipping, and they didn't give me a full refund because they said it was no longer "like new". I've never bought anything with the ASUS name on it since.

That's not right. If it is defective, it is not your fault. You don't have to pay for anything. You got ripped.
Personally, I only purchase these kind of stuffs on online stores with physical stores in case I need to return them. Instead of driving to Fedex or Purolator, I'll drive straight to the store. Instant full refund. Even if it's not defective, you'll get a full refund. You always have to protect your own interest.

@Hazel123 Thanks for your response, the specs i showed only has 1 TB of storage not 2 TB. If I adjust the Dell options to the Arc graphics, it changes the RAM from 16GB (upgradable) to 16GB Onboarded, so thats the kicker there. Am I wrong for thinking the regular un-soldered ram was a better idea?

Looks good!

If, for any reason, you're not pleased, you can return a Dell purchase within 30 days for a full money back. Contact Dell, they ship a return kit, and Dell even pays the return shipping. How's that for a manufacturer's confidence in their product?
Thanks @TraderGary do you mean it you think the specs, laptop look pretty good or are you just trying to shut me up;-):p
