Is Yahoo Mail unsafe?

I have been using two Yahoo accounts and two Gmail accounts for many years. I don't use the two-step verification on any of them, but that is your choice. I haven't found any of them to be unsafe and I have never experienced that message.

The Gmail accounts never see any spam, but one of my Yahoo accounts does get some spam, a couple of times a week. The spam is due to an old ".msn" email account with a redirect to the Yahoo account. However, I can't get into the old ".msn" account to shut it down. The Yahoo account just redirects all of the spam to a spam folder. I don't even notice it unless I actually look at the spam folder. And, once in the spam folder, all of the harmful links and images are disabled. I find that most of the spam is from compromised Gmail accounts.

My opinion disagrees with others. I have recommended to all my customers to get away from Yahoo mail. In the past, Yahoo has had less security on their end to prevent major breaches than any other email provider. They just didn't seem to care that much about it at the time of the first big breach and let it drag on for years without action resulting in more breaches.

One of their data breaches is one of the worst and most infamous cases of a known cyberattack and currently holds the record for the most people affected. Unless it's been settled there is a major class action suit going on now.The first attack occurred in 2013, and many more would continue over the next three years. They finally got better and at least offered 2-step verification, but who wants to have to enter a code every time he reads his e-mail in order to feel secure. IMO they are still not up to par with some of the other email providers.

As far as spam, it has become a fact of life no matter what email provider. You can help it, but you can't stop it. Make your password as difficult as you can no matter what provider you use. Mine is 22 characters long, lower and upper case, numbers, and several symbols. I am very careful who has my email. I use a throw-away email for any site that requires it except places like my finances, Amazon, this forum, etc.

Just because someone tries to log into an account doesn't make it unsafe. However, you want to make it as hard as possible to be successful. Even if they should get your password, with 2 step they'd also need your phone or alternate email to actually get in. It could also just be a fault in Yahoo and not some actual hacking attempt

I have both Yahoo Mail and Gmail for many years and have not experienced any significant problem with them, my comment is that Gmail is complicated to use compared with Yahoo Mail.

If the appearance of the message is due to “multiple attempts to log in the account” I think I might be the one who caused the problem because I often randomly use different Android devices and different computers to sign in Yahoo Mail account. (These devices are mine and used in home).

I have had Yahoo email for over 15 years now, and have never encountered any type of security incident that would make me want to leave it. I also have secondary accounts with Gmail and Hotmail. I think the message that Man 11 got is, as A Guy pointed out, Yahoo's way of handling an 'unsuccesful multiple logon event to a userid.'

I get a lot of email messages several times a week from MS about 'someone trying to login to my hotmail account with a wrong password and to ignore if it is not me.' I ignore it. I also get email messages from Google whenever I go into Gmail from either a Linux, Windows, or iOS device telling me that 'a new device has logged into my account and to ignore if it is me doing it.' I ignore it. All any of these warnings mean is that their security systems for email are working according to their individual design criteria.

True, but I don't ignore the messages. It also means an unsuccessful login to your account. It may be you mistyping when you login in or you logging in from a new device. But it can also be someone else. I don't know about Yahoo, but Google & MS let you see the geographical location and the ip address of any login attempt. I had someone from one of those countries with a "stan" in it wear mine out. Whether or not it mattered, I changed my old 8 digit password to 22 characters and they have since left the account alone.

I didn't know that about Google and MS showing the geographical locations, thanks. I'll have to see if Yahoo offers that. My MS account (hotmail) is the one where the login attempts are made often. I'm going to go ahead and change the password there and see if that quiets it down. I agree with you about the importance of good passwords.
