I'm running windows 11 version 21H2. Recently Windows update has been telling me "your device is missing important security updates". hen I run windows update, it tells me windows is up to date. I tried a few things from web searches, including trying to use the windows install assistant.

I don't want to clean reinstall windows. Anyone have an easy fix for this?
Thanks.

If you have 11 on a My computer" with an I7-6700K, you're running an unsupported installation.

You may have to do an upgrade install. Repair Install Windows 11 with an In-place Upgrade

I haven't done it in a while, so I'm not sure whether any hackery has to be done to permit the upgrade to succeed. Last I knew, no. (I have 24H2 on a laptop with an unsupported Gen6 Intel CPU.)

Thanks, bobkn. When I originally installed Windows 11 on this PC, I had to use a hack I found on the internet to install the OS. Guess I'll have to do it again (don't remember what I did), to get 24H2.

Things may be a bit different for an upgrade of 11 over 11.

When I last did it on the laptop, using a 24H2 version from the Preview insider channel, I didn't need any hacks.

The main issue with upgrading unsupported systems is that it can't be done through Windows Update or the installation assistant. Need to download the 24H2 ISO and either mount the iso or burn the iso to either a DVD or flash drive. The easy way out would be to use Rufus to make a bootable flash drive and check all the boxes to bypass the TPM. CPU, and RAM requirements.

To do an in-place upgrade using the flash drive, open it in file explorer, then select setup. Only boot from a flash drive if you're doing a clean install. I upgraded an old 4th gen intel from Windows 10 to 11 24H2 via in-place upgrade using a flash drive I created with Rufus.

I installed a new 1TB Samsung SSD. So now I have my 500 GB SSD C drive which is full with Windows 21H2, an empty B drive with 1.8 TB free and a mechanical D drive. The new drive shows up in my bios and in disk management. I can paste thinks on the new SSD but for the life of me I can't install anything on the new drive. It shows up in my bios and in disk management as NTFS file system , drive B with 1.9 TBs free. Rufus wouldn't install on it.
I'm trying to get another copy of windows 11 on it that bypasses the security issues.

Any help would be appreciated.

Maybe it's just me, but I find that unclear.

Are you trying to install Windows on drive B?

I doubt that drive letter B is permitted for a hard drive (or SSD). For starters, I suggest changing the drive letter to a supported one. (E:, maybe.)

if you're trying to leave the 21h2 drive alone and ensure you only install windows on the new ssd, just disconnect the other one from the pc. then only 1 drive will show up during install and you'll know for sure

Thanks guys. I was having file allocation issues on the new 1TB Samsung SSD. I cleared that up in Device Management. Now it's showing the full free space. I just moved Microsoft Flight Simulator to the new drive via Steam and it worked.

I'm thinking about installing another copy of Windows 11 on the 1 TB SSD via Rufus as my C drive doesn't have enough space (40 GB I think is needed) to do it. But thinking about it at this point.

I also changed the 3, 750D case Corsair fans, 2 intake and one exhaust. They were starting to make a lot of noise. Running very quietly now.

Well, everything is fine now. Actually it's a 2TB Samsung SSD that I bought. It's amazing that the old (older) games I have took up 1TB of space. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and Forza Motorsport 7 were two of the biggest. With all the COD games, Tomb Raider, etc I have 1TB left. Lol.

Thanks again to the forum members.
