Solved 24H2 - how to remove the two (un)reclaimable that always show in DISM


Worked like a charm on both of my Lenovo systems. (y)

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven below to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro.

    My SYSTEM FOUR is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e 20DA, Celeron N2930, 8GB RAM, 256GB ssd. Unsupported device: currently running Win10 Pro, plus Win11 Pro RTM and Insider Dev, Beta, and RP 24H2 as native boot vhdx.

Please tell us a bit of text for which to search in CBS.log, in order to recognize reclaimable pkg name(s).
Nothing "reclaim" in there.

The word to search for is 'superseded'. The 'problem' package removed by the instructions in post #1 was labelled as 'deeply superseded'.

I strongly recommend you do not try to manually remove any other packages. Only the package identified in post #1 has proved to be safe to remove. I broke Windows several times over in testing before I posted this fix.

All other reclaimable packages should be able to be cleaned up by the normal methods anyway.
Use Disk Cleanup (System files) or DISM /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup

/remove-package outputs "operation.... successfully",
but pkg remains.

If you do a feature update or an In-Place Upgrade, they come back.

You do realize 24H2 and 25H2 are essentially the same Windows release? The only difference is the EP. But that only switches on Windows features, and doesn't address any update servicing issues.

If there's a bug in the Servicing Stack, then it'll get fixed in the same time for both 24H2 & 25H2. Otherwise, it may just stay broken.

I've stopped removing those two "(Un) reclaimable Packages" as when I do I often encounter WU errors on future builds. After digging I find info like the following:

Why They Reappear
  • Check-Point Cumulative Updates:
    These are baseline updates that serve as a foundation for subsequent cumulative updates. They are intentionally left in a "staged" or partially installed state to ensure readiness for future updates.

  • Interrupted or Failed Updates:
    If a Windows update fails or is interrupted before completion, it can leave components in a "staged" state where they are prepared but not fully installed or cleaned up.

  • System Complexity:

They will only come back if you do an in-place repair upgrade.
This could be with an ISO, or by using System > Recovery > Fix problems using Windows Update.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven below to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

They are the same packages. 25H2 is just 24H2 + an enablement package to turn on the dormant features already in the 24H2 system files.

1. 24H2 ISO (26100.1742) includes the first package "Package_for_RollupFix~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~26100.1742.1.10" as a FOD metadata package under C:\Windows\servicing\Packages.

The manifest reports it belongs to KB5043080 (Checkpoint CU). So it's always been part of the 24H2 release.

2. 25H2 ISO (26200.6584) includes both "Package_for_RollupFix~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~26100.1742.1.10" and "Package_for_RollupFix~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~26100.6584.1.20".

26100.6584.1.20 is tagged as KB5065426 (Insider Preview). 25H2 is simply an updated 24H2 with the EP added, so it's not surprising to have the previous RollupFix.

It would be interesting to see if one day 26100.6584.1.20 becomes reclaimable, or if 26100.1742.1.10 was only an one-time glitch.
