The real answer is that Microsoft suxxorz at programming. They've lost their way. :D

This is how they made Windows 10 and Windows 11...

Image1.png

Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn and caldron bubble.
Fillet of a fenny snake,
In the caldron boil and bake;
Eye of newt and toe of frog,
Wool of bat and tongue of dog,
Adder's fork and blind-worm's sting,
Lizard's leg and howlet's wing,
For an OS of powerful trouble,
Let the hell-broth boil and bubble.

Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn and caldron bubble.
Cool it with a baboon's blood,
And Windows will be cursed for good.

[slightly edited "Song of the Witches" from Shakespeare's "Macbeth"]

I claim no responsibility for any nightmare's this ancient truth may cause. :D

I totally understand why the two folders exist - to separate 32-bit and 64-bit apps. My question was why is Edge in the wrong folder!

Apologies, I did a total duh!

I thought this:

Those programs could have installed themselves into separate directories like C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer and C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer (x86)

Was like:

Those programs could have installed themselves into separate directories like C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer and C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer

I kept wondering why the follow on sentence seemed weird? I could only imagine that the reason why x64 Edge is in the Program Files (x86) folder is because the Edge installer is still x86 and they used %ProgramFiles% as part of the installation path. Basically, the same issue the others pointed out with older versions of Chromium.
