I have not had a laptop with chamber cooling but did read about the setup which sounded great.

Also, I am one of those who shops and see’s something better and thinks “Hmm only an extra $250” until my wife says “OK that’s it, turn off the PC”
And also… I’ve been doing this for at least 3 years. I think I am ADHD or OCD or all of the above.

it was my first computer build (for myself) in over a decade and it was build around Dec of 2020, which was prime scalpergate time so getting parts like my CPU and my GPU were hard to source...and getting it at MSRP was pretty much impossible.

My EVGA 3080 FTW3 Ultra was about $900
My Ryzen 9 5900X was sbout $700
My WD SN850x 2TB PCIe Gen 4 was $450
My ROG Strix X570-e Gaming motherboard was about $375
My 27" Asus Tuf Gaming high refresh rate monitor was $450
My 27" Asus ProArt monitor was $300

So, that alone was just over $3k back then. Add some RAM, CPU Cooler, Case, PSU, secondary SSD drive and the price definitely crept up there.

I saw that over the weekend but it looked too good to be true, I looked at the seller and it was chinese. Funny enough I was watching a video from Paul's hardware and he mentioned the same thing at around 6:00

I've been keeping an eye out for a cheap 7800x3D because my gaming PC died after almost 10 years and thanks to the failure of the 9000x series and all he benchmarks reviewers did the 7800x3d is still a lot better than everything else. Now the price went up from 313 from my local microcenter currently at 379.99 and on amazon like $413. That sucks!!! I think the prices will go down when the 9800x3d comes out but I don't need nothing that outrageous, i'll be happy if I can get my hands on a cheap 7800x3d.

They're probably made in China also, so not sure what you're on about. But if one was to buy from anywhere but a reputable seller, then it's on them.

I've been keeping an eye out for a cheap 7800x3D because my gaming PC died after almost 10 years and thanks to the failure of the 9000x series and all he benchmarks reviewers did the 7800x3d is still a lot better than everything else. Now the price went up from 313 from my local microcenter currently at 379.99 and on amazon like $413. That sucks!!! I think the prices will go down when the 9800x3d comes out but I don't need nothing that outrageous, i'll be happy if I can get my hands on a cheap 7800x3d.

"failure of the 9000x series"? I haven't paid much attention, but that seems excessive.

Some reviewers seem to be disappointed that the 9000 series doesn't offer a major price/performance advantage over the 7000 series. Maybe the same sort of reviewers who declared the nVidia RTX 4060 graphics cards to be junk. (They aren't, but not a lot better than the RTX 3060.)

Yeah, I don't really see the 9000 series as a failure. The X3d chips are better at gaming than the non X3d chips. So, no surprise there.

Its just people had their hopes up that this would be a 16-20% increase over the 7000 series, and it's not. It's around 6-8% performance increase, but with less power draw and heat. I'd never recommend an upgrade from a 7000 series to a 9000 series, simply not going to be worth it. Heck, I'm not even sure I would recommend upgrading from a 5000 series to a 7000 series for most workloads. My son who is on a 3800x, I would recommend the 9000 series...but since he mostly games, we would wait for the 9800x3d for sure or a 7800x3d if we had to upgrade this instant.

My closest MicroCenter is 2.5 hours away. It was worth the drive to me to be able to put hands on the cases (added bonus, they had no issue with my gf bringing the dog in (couldn't leave her home for 6+ hours, she can't be trusted). Happened they had a deal on the 9700x so I paid under $200 for it. I know Zen5 gets rubbish on but I figure it's at least as good as a 7700x for less money and at lower wattage so...(I did contemplate waiting for the 9800x3d but decided I could wait forever if I kept waiting for the next big things that's coming).

The laptop it replaced was an i7-9750H (heck, even my work computer is only an i7-8700k) so its a huge upgrade for me. As for the "failure" of the 9000 series, guess it depends on your use case and where you're coming from. My priority is not gaming (I'll probably download some free games off steam but...)

Some of y'all have crazy budgets. Mine was only $2k (not including monitors...which I haven't upgraded yet) and that is by far the most I've ever spent on a computer...I went over by a little.

Recently, Microsoft released an update to Windows 11 both 24H1 and 23H2 to fix the performance of the Zen 5, Zen 4 and even Zen 3 series. You may look recent reviews.

Seems the 7800X3D is still VERY popular. Price has gone up even more to more like $430 range. Currently it's not even showing up on Amazon or Newegg. Can't keep it in stock it appears.
