Hi all,

I received some excellent help over on ten forums for my pc that kept BSOD'ing a while back and since that finished, it has not crashed since and given it a new lease of life. So I thought I would try here for a relatively new family laptop problem (I bought it in July) that has occurred.

Basically, it wont play any sound and when I open the sound settings, the system becomes extremely slow and sluggish. Ive also noticed (I dont use it that much, the family do) that the fans seems to be running really high. I have tried to troubleshoot the issue and it seems to just hang/not respond when I try to check any settings.

As the family mainly use it, if you think it worth doing spyware/malware checking first I can start there and see if that fixes anything.

The windows version number is: Version 25H2 (OS Build: 26200.7171)

The laptop product is an Acer Nitro ANV16-41 if that helps.

Thanks
John

Hello @JWW2025 and welcome to ElevenForum. :-)

First use Option Two, here...

Then go here and input the serial number for the laptop, and download the Audio driver, save it to your desktop and install it.

A lot of times, MS will install and MS driver that can corrupt the already installed driver.
The tutorial up above will help prevent that from happening in the future.

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 15 years?
Did installing the manufacturer's driver work? :-)

There are scores of checks that need to be done.
I would start with the simplest stuff like:
1. Is the SSD nearly full ?
2. Check on what has been installed.
3. Use the Task Manager for various purposes at idle like:

Performance Tab - CPU, GPU 0, GPU 1, Memory utilisation. Should be roughly 1%, 0, 0, 5 GB.
Startup apps - These should be minimally enabled, on mine just 3 running - Function keys, Realtek audio service, Security health icon.
Processes Tab - Sort the CPU, Memory, Disk usage columns.

That should give you some initial clues as to what is going on and following checks.

Hi Ghot.

That solution worked thanks. Sound restored.

Helmut, Ill start to weed out some of the other stuff on it now utilising memory as about 50% of it seems to be in use when idle which does seem high!

Thanks
John
