This tutorial will show you how to always, when the taskbar is full, or never combine taskbar buttons and hide labels for your account, specific users, or all users in Windows 11.

The taskbar in Windows 11 shows the Start menu, Search, Task View, Widgets, Chat, File Explorer, Microsoft Edge, and Microsoft Store buttons (icons) aligned to the center by default.

If you have more than one display connected to your PC, then you can show the taskbar on all displays instead of just on the main display.

The main taskbar is the taskbar with the clock and system tray icons on it, and is on your main display. Taskbars that show on other displays not set as your main display do have the clock (if turned on), but does not show the system tray icons on them.

In never combined mode, available to everyone starting with Windows 11 version 22H2 KB5030310 Build 22621.2361, you’ll be able to see each window of your applications on the taskbar individually, as well as their corresponding labels. And Microsoft provides a separate setting for turning this on for other taskbars (multiple monitor scenarios for example).

The Combine Taskbar buttons and hide labels and Combine Taskbar buttons and hide labels on other taskbars settings only applies to the taskbar buttons of currently open windows.

If you turn on Show labels on Taskbar pins, it will override the Combine Taskbar buttons and hide labels and Combine Taskbar buttons and hide labels on other taskbars settings to hide labels.

Hey guy's
I just tired the above options. These work well on a windows 10 machine. But do not seem to work anymore on windows 11 pro x64 version 22h2.
The toggle options are not in the settings menu. Also when running the bat or placing it in a admin powershell does not seem to do the trick.
I gues they took the option out somewhere with the last updates.

Hello, :alien:

If you are wanting to hide the labels on the taskbar icons, then you'll want to use the Always_combine_taskbar_buttons_and_hide_labels.bat bat file.

The "Never" option is to not do that instead.

I missed the where it said " on Other Taskbars"

Is there any way to have it never combine and hide labels?

Hello, :alien:

That setting would normally be grayed out if you don't have more than one connected display in order to have more than one taskbar.

I upgraded to windows 11 pro today and noticed this... how in the hell can the production team leave this feature off?
Horrible decision making.

I upgraded to latest and this option is still not available... version 22H2, (22621.2283)
I can't see any other update. This sucks so hard. Is there any way to get this without signing up for dev team or whatever ?

Hello, and welcome. :alien:

There's a big feature update coming to Windows 11 on September 26 that may include this feature. Otherwise, it should be available in the 23H2 update for Windows 11 in Q4 (October/November).

Just an update regarding my post above, it actually came this update! :)
So the feature is there now, however i can't stretch the taskbar for two tabs instead of 1, hopefully that come with the bigger update.

I updated mine, and still the option is not there. Do you have build 22621.2361?
