Hi Bug locker,
Unfortunately that utility you suggested won't install on my laptop as its too old. Mine is 21H2, it needs to be upgraded..

I'll have to wait another day and try and old friends PC to see if the phone is detected.

I'll keep you posted.

Do you have at Device Manager a "Composite USB Device" with a date of the driver 2006 ?

VladdyProsa,
Just done that, still no joy, phone is connected to laptop via USB and still not detected.

Surely one does not have to link the phone to Microsoft, that's something I never had to do in the past.

Seven years ago when I had problems connecting my Samsung S7 to my PC I used Developer Mode to get it to work. However, I turned that off when I found out there was something simpler to do. After I restarted my phone I could connect with USB again.

The first thing that happened when I plugged the Samsung S7 into my laptop was that Windows loaded the Samsung USB driver. After that it just worked. Note the phone screen must be unlocked for you to see the data on your phone.

Today for my Samsung S21 I use Phone Link for the most recent messages and photos. For access to all messages and photos I use MyPhoneExplorer. Note with both of these methods I use a WiFi connection between my phone and PC.

Are you connecting your phone to just transfer files?

If so, you can do this through quick share.

This uses bluetooth to connect your phone to your pc and works to transfer files.

You could also upload a folder or file to google drive and then download it from google drive on your pc

could be a bad usb cable, could be a bad port, could be not choosing file transfer under the usb notification, could be a lot of things.

I would skip all of it and just use quick share.

Greetings everyone.
Thanks to everyones assistance.

I ended up running a Tweaking Windows Repair Tool. after a long time it found I had some corrupted files, its all fixed now.

When I attach the C USB cable to phone and laptop, it now sees the phone.

However, I cant access the phone as such to view video, pics and medical docs.

I cannot recall how or what tool I used to open and see the files / folders in the phone.

In File Explorer my Samsung S7 showed two devices: Phone and Card, where, Phone = internal storage & Card = microSD card.

In File Explorer my Samsung S21 shows only one device: Internal Storage. It cannot use microSD cards.

I found the most important files in these folders:
  • Photos & videos: Internal storage\DCIM\Camera
  • Screenshots: Internal storage\DCIM\Screenshots
  • Documents: Internal storage\Documents
  • Downloads: Internal storage\Download
Once you see the phone in File Explorer and the phone's screen is unlocked you can see the folders and files in it.

USB5.jpg

I rarely connect my phone to my PC using a USB cable anymore. It more convenient to use the MyPhoneExplorer app and make a WiFi connection to it. As you can see in the screenshot below I can see the same folders and files.

Ok,
I did end up accessing and viewing the contents / folders on the phone.

It took some time for the phone to show allow or deny access. Once I chose the Allow button, all is good now.

1) So it looks like some element of Windows was the cause.
2) If you would you can mark as solved the thread , except there is another problem.
I hope still you dont use Driver Booster.
Cheers.
