Anker 737 Powerbank - What Cable Do I Need To Charge It?

The specs of the Dell 130W power supply are simply:
  • Input: 100 ~ 240V 50 ~ 60Hz
  • Output: 5V 1A/20V 6.5A 130W
The only thing proprietary about the Dell power supply are the input and output electrical currents.

When you plug the USB-C cable output of the Dell power supply into a device with a USB-C port, the device itself limits the voltage and amperage being input. This is why I can plug the output of the Dell 130W power supply directly into my Google Pixel 7Pro phone and the phone itself knows how to limit all that power down to the 23 watts of power required by the phone. All USB-C devices follow USB-C design standards to enable them to do this. This why I can use my Dell 130W power supply to charge and operate every single one of my USB-C devices.
This is exactly how I have understood this to be the case too. But I was getting a bit unsure because of the contradicting answers here.

Amazon delivered the Anker Prime 200W Power Bank at 6 AM this morning. The Power Bank had 25% charge when I turned it on. I charged it using the Dell 130W laptop charger. The Power Bank said the charger was delivering 90.2W of power. I watched the charge percentage go from 25% to 100% on the Anker screen. It took 29 minutes to go from 25% to 100% charge using the Dell 130W charger. So far, I'm very impressed with the Anker Prime 200W Power Bank!

My Dell XPS 15 9510 laptop is currently at 91% charge. I am connecting the Anker Power Bank. When I rest the cursor on the laptop power icon it says, "Battery status 91% available (plugged in)". The Anker Prime says it is charging the laptop at 36.9W.

I do know that my Dell XPS 15 laptop slows charging significantly during the last 10% of charging, so the time to a full laptop charge doesn't really mean a lot. The Anker Power Bank battery information currently says the Battery Health is 100%. Battery Cycles are 0. Battery Temperature is 42 C / 107 F.

I've decided that reporting Anker battery status is somewhat meaningless at this point because it is obvious to me that the laptop is currently using the Anker Power Bank for its power as well as for battery charging.

The Anker Power Bank says it is at 85% after being connected to the Dell laptop for 25 minutes. The Dell laptop reports 100% charged.

First Power Bank charge experience has been excellent. I'm now going to charge the Anker Prime Power Bank to 100% and put it in my backpack.

I've always been impressed and satisfied with Anker. This Anker Prime 200W Power Bank is a keeper.

When are you gonna order the Anker SOLIX F2000 for travel? It has a nice handle and wheels, so you can easily drag it with you. 🧌 :zany:

Folks, stop already with the irrelevant posts and insults. Not very nice.

Yeah I know I posted something irrelevant too, but it was to lighten the mood and was at least related to power banks. At least one (targeted) member thought it was funny, so I call it a success.

Let's play nice, OK?

@newmann

Mr. @TraderGary has been kind enough to order an Anker 747 Powerbank, test it using a Dell 130W USB-C laptop charger and used the power bank to charge his Dell laptop. He has now verified these parts all work well together. So to conclude this:

1. You can use the Dell USB-C charger you have to charge the Anker power bank
2. You can use the power bank to charge your Dell laptop and other USB-C devices using the supplied USB-C - USB-C cable.
3. You can use the power bank to charge your iPhone with your compatible cable.
4. There is no need to buy anything else.

Enjoy your new power bank. And we're glad we could help.

I checked out the Amazon link and at the bottom of the About this item box it does state that you only get the Anker 737 power bank, a welcome guide, 24 month warranty and customer service. No mention of a charger or USB cable so that means they are not included. I would have been surprised if they didn't mention what it came with.

I checked out the Amazon link and at the bottom of the About this item box it does state that you only get the Anker 737 power bank, a welcome guide, 24 month warranty and customer service. No mention of a charger or USB cable so that means they are not included. I would have been surprised if they didn't mention what it came with.
The confusion comes from there being two similarly named but completely different products:

Anker 737 Power Bank (PowerCore 24K)
Specs: 2xUSB-C (140W max) + 1xUSB-A (18W max)
Includes:
  • Anker 737 Power Bank (PowerCore 24K)
  • 140W USB-C to USB-C cable
Anker 737 Power Bank (PowerCore 26K for Laptop)
Specs: 1xUSB-C (60W) + 2xUSB-A (18W shared)
Includes:
  • Anker 737 Power Bank (PowerCore 26K for Laptop)
  • Anker 515 Wall Charger (65W)
  • USB-C to USB-C cable
Note the Anker 737 Power Bank (PowerCore 24K) is PD 3.1 (140W) so can charge and be recharged must faster than the other version. Note also unlike the other version it does not include a charger.

Exactly. I looked for the Anker 737 Power Bank in Amazon (the wrong one) and it came up with the one we assumed the OP was referring to. We had nothing else to go on. I have a power bank, but couldn't tell you what it is for the life of me. I just know I can charge it, and if need be, charge my phone.

I just looked and see that the OP finally said he had the 24000 mah (24K) model in post #14. I guess a lot of us even then did not realize there was another similar model.

Tradergary, I recall you had the dell xps 15 9510 as you mentioned this previously. The one you have is the model before mine as I have the 9520.

Is there a reason you bought that Anker Prime 200W Power Bank as oppose to the other ones? That one does seem less heavy than the anker 24000mah 737 that I have. Do you travel with your laptop much or your other devices which is why you bought the powerbank?

We also have the same exact laptop charger right? The one you have for the 9510 should be the same as my 9520?

Well I had thought when I mentioned the anker 737 powerbank, it was obvious which one it was even if you googled it. The other anker 737 that is a portable charger but that does show up on amazon when you check it.

But if you were to google anker 737 powerbank, the 24000mah is the one that mainly shows up etc. The other issue isn't aren't that portable charger 737 might even have issues charging a laptop though? I recall any charger or powerbank that looks like that which isn't big or bulky at all probably was meant for phones or smaller laptops.

What is the most amount of watts you are getting when charging your xps laptop with the anker 20000 mah powerbank you have?

I seem to only get 40w or less but that was when charging it when the dell xps laptop battery was around 85% or so. When the xps laptop battery was over 90%, the anker would charge under 20w. But that is normal right?

Now if your xps laptop is say 20%. Now you charge the anker powerbank to it... it certainly will be charging the xps laptop at least 60w right? The max would be 90w? But once the xps laptop battery gets higher, then the anker will probably give it 40w and less? However, the 20000mah you have... you probably get maybe 40% charge at max on the xps right? Example say your xps 9510 had 10% battery left. Your anker 20000mah is 100% and now you charge your laptop. You continue using the xps laptop doing what you do what it is charging. The anker 20000mah will probably last at most 1 hour at the absolute max right before it goes to 0%? And your xps would go fro 10% to maybe 50% at the absolute max? Would you say these figures would be accurate?

Also it's not a good idea to get either your laptop or the anker powerbank to ever go below 20% right? I thought i heard you do that a lot or let it drain 0%, it makes the laptop battery worst? But the same with the anker powerbank? But when you have to use up the juice on the anker and laptop, no issue with doing that a few times right?

So you charge your dell xps 15 9510 usb charger with all your phones and everything. That is interesting. So there is no point of you buying any anker charger... unless you are travel and don't feel like carrying a the dell xps usb-c charger with you then right?

I was filling out a purchase of the 737 and at the bottom of the screen was the information that there was an updated Power Bank. I looked at the specs and decided to purchase the newer Anker Prime Power Bank. I do some traveling for pleasure. For example, as I type this, I'm at the Embassy Suites in Savannah, GA.
We also have the same exact laptop charger right? The one you have for the 9510 should be the same as my 9520?
Our laptop chargers are identical.

I seem to only get 40w or less but that was when charging it when the dell xps laptop battery was around 85% or so. When the xps laptop battery was over 90%, the anker would charge under 20w. But that is normal right?
My XPS 15 9510 is currently fully charged. When I plug my Anker Prime in, the power reads 11.7W. The Anker Prime screen shows 100% charge and my Dell XPS 15 shows 100% charge.
Would you say these figures would be accurate?
When I first got the Anker Prime and I was testing it, I recall the power reading in the low 90W when first charging. The XPS 15 is designed to slow the charging down incrementally as it charges. Thats why I'm seeing only 11.7W with my XPS 15 at 100% charge.
It is my understanding that the 20% rule you mention is only true for older battery technologies and is not true for Lithium-ion batteries. I've depleted my Li-ion batteries many times with no ill effects. They charge right back up to full again and work as they always did.
So you charge your dell xps 15 9510 usb charger with all your phones and everything. That is interesting. So there is no point of you buying any anker charger... unless you are travel and don't feel like carrying a the dell xps usb-c charger with you then right?
Yes, I'm traveling right now and the only charger I have with me is my 130W Dell charger. If I'm not using my computer, I plug the 130W charger directly into my phone. It charges the phone just fine with no problems.

I do carry a couple of 6" power cords that came with my Samsung T7 SSD drives in my backpack. While I'm working on my laptop, I plug one of the cords into one of the laptop Thunderbolt 4 ports and the other end into my phone and charge it while the Dell charger is plugged in to my laptop.

The only charger I've used on my new Anker Prime Power Bank is my Dell 130W laptop charger. It works just fine.

When you say you were filling out a purchase for the 737, you are talking about the same one I bought correct? Or you mean the other one one some people in thread thought I was talking about... the 737 portable charger?

So right now your dell xps is fully charged and when you plug in the anker 20000 mah to it, it reads 11.7W. You say you are traveling. Now both the xps and the anker is 100% fully charged. Now when do you plan to charge your xps laptop with the anker powerbank during your trip or in general?

Let's assume you have no access to an outlet to charge. If your xps laptop still has at least 80%, you not going to charge it with the anker powerbank right? Since you only charge it when you have to such as if you have no outlet access and say your laptop is 20% or less? Or you would connect the anker to it even earlier like say even 50% even? But the point of you having this anker is to also charge your other devices like your phone right during the time when you have no outlet access. Yes I get what you mean with you having the xps 130w usb-c laptop charger with you to charge your phone but you could only use that xps laptop charger if you have access to an outlet.

The thing is it is true that people say if you charge your laptop with the anker powerbank, it would use less power if your laptop has more battery correct? Thus let say you have no access to an outlet for many hours and you have to use your laptop for many hours. Assuming laptop xps battery is 100% and so is anker powerbank.

You would be connecting the anker powerbank to the laptop while working on the laptop until the anker powerbank drains to 0% first right and then use your xps laptop and it's battery until the laptop goes off correct? As oppose to using the laptop battery to 50% or 20% or 5% even and then connecting the anker powerbank to it because if you do that, it would drain more power that way?

Do you have an idea how long your anker powerbank when 100% full charged to your xps laptop that is 100% full will last before the anker powerbank goes to 0%? I got to assume it's 1 hour or so or even less. Would you say that is accurate? You xps has the same 86whr battery as mine I believe. So you would get 1 hour or so backup battery and whatever battery with your xps right? How many hours do you get on average? Or you rarely ever let your laptop battery ever down to 5% or so? I got to assume you tested it once or twice right?

Now compare that to using your laptop down to 20% battery before plugging in the anker powerbank. Then charging the 100% anker battery to the dell laptop. I got to assume the anker battery will go to 0% in maybe 50 minutes or so or even less? Since charging the dell xps battery from under 20% battery will use up more power and watts than the same laptop that is already 100% or even 90% battery right? So if you had say many hours of no power outlet access and you have to use your laptop for many hours, which would be the way for you to get the most battery with your xps laptop and anker powerbank?

At the time I wasn't aware that there were two different versions of the 737.
So right now your dell xps is fully charged and when you plug in the anker 20000 mah to it, it reads 11.7W. You say you are traveling. Now both the xps and the anker is 100% fully charged. Now when do you plan to charge your xps laptop with the anker powerbank during your trip or in general?
I plan to resort to using the Anker Prime only when my Dell XPS 15 battery would be close to depletion.
Let's assume you have no access to an outlet to charge. If your xps laptop still has at least 80%, you not going to charge it with the anker powerbank right?
Right.
Since you only charge it when you have to such as if you have no outlet access and say your laptop is 20% or less?
Right.
Or you would connect the anker to it even earlier like say even 50% even?
I don't plan to use it this way.
But the point of you having this anker is to also charge your other devices like your phone right during the time when you have no outlet access.
Yes, I would use it to charge my phone if needed.
Yes I get what you mean with you having the xps 130w usb-c laptop charger with you to charge your phone but you could only use that xps laptop charger if you have access to an outlet.
Obviously, I can only use the Dell 130W charger to charge my phone if it is connected to an outlet.

The thing is it is true that people say if you charge your laptop with the anker powerbank, it would use less power if your laptop has more battery correct? Yes.

Again, I only intend to use the Anker if the laptop battery is close to depletion.

I agree that would be a good guess.
You xps has the same 86whr battery as mine I believe. So you would get 1 hour or so backup battery and whatever battery with your xps right? How many hours do you get on average?
Battery longevity on my XPS 15 is totally dependent on what I'm doing. The longest my XPS 15 has lasted on battery has been 7.5 hours when all I was doing was checking forums and doing some writing with Microsoft Word. Screen brightness is the major factor on battery longevity. I keep mine at 70% brightness.
Or you rarely ever let your laptop battery ever down to 5% or so? I got to assume you tested it once or twice right?
Answered above.
Now compare that to using your laptop down to 20% battery before plugging in the anker powerbank. Then charging the 100% anker battery to the dell laptop. I got to assume the anker battery will go to 0% in maybe 50 minutes or so or even less?
I think that would be a good guess.

Again, my intended use would be to deplete my XPS 15 to maybe 20% or less before attaching the Anker. I would hope that I would seldom, if ever, need to use the Anker. But it is nice to have it available if I need it.
