What I believe causes this is the internet provider monitors the usage on how much data a person uses on the internet with a particular computer. If above a certain amount they kick you off of the private network or they throttle the connection down.

Really to tell what is really happening one has to monitor the incoming data and know what that data is and how it affects one computer in real time.

There are most likely several techniques to try and shot gun the problem and of course the master technique of resetting the Operating system. To me this is a waste of time, especially thinking we have these powerful computers that should be capable to troubleshoot a problem down to the exact cause.

how are you settng it to private? if you're using the toggle and its not working try using powershell

In an admin powershell prompt:

Powershell:
$network = Get-NetConnectionProfile
Set-NetConnectionProfile -Name $network.Name -NetworkCategory Private

What happens to me is more random. few and far between, then all the time.

So, while I am on the internet and have a solid connection all of a sudden it will switch to public.

I just rebooted the modem/router, and I get connected again with private.

At first, I could not find the toggle to switch back to private. The way it is on my computer is one can go to settings and then to network internet.

One would expect to then see the toggle but no it is not there even in advance setting.

One has to go to properties at the top of the page and click on it.

Then one would expect to then see the toggle, but no one has to scroll up the page to see the toggle.

I have had one provider company admit to me that they slowed my connection down even when I had unlimited download on my account. They slowed it below 2Mbps. That is when one can no long stream any video. I got it corrected after it was brought to the attention of people higher up.
