I wanted to clone my HD, so I tried the free download of AOMEI cloner, only to find that it is not actually free. Oh, it's free to download, but when I actually try to use it, I get paywalls out the wazoo. No matter what I try to do, I hit a paywall. This is BS, nothing but clickbait to try to sucker people into paying for it.

Key Details on the Free Version:​


  • What it supports for free: It allows efficient disk/partition cloning and data transfer for non-system disks (e.g., cloning data drives, external HDDs/SSDs, or partitions without the OS). It includes features like intelligent cloning (copying only used sectors) and basic disk-to-disk copying.
  • Limitations: System cloning (migrating your Windows OS/boot drive to another drive) and some advanced features (like certain enterprise or bootable media options) are restricted and require upgrading to the Professional edition (paid, with yearly or lifetime licenses).
The home page for the cloning software is somewhat misleading as it does not state "Free download to try" without stating the above limitations.
