Solved ASUS audio cards not supported by Windows 11


I just updated to Windows 11 with my STX ii drivers already installed and everything is fine, my card still works like a charm and the Audio Center software works too.

Bad news everyone, after troubleshooting what I thought was an issue with my new RAM it turns out that the STX ii, technically, does work with Windows 11, except it sporadically randomly crashes my entire PC whenever a program needs it. It doesn't even come with a BSOD, my PC just turns off and reboots.

Could Windows Update have replaced your original drivers causing issues? Go at Device Manager, right-click your sound card and driver details to confirm it. In that case reinstall proper driver and use Windows Update Show/Hide Tool to hide (block) the offending update.

kinda sucks that asus can't issue updated sound card drivers for the STX II that will truly work with win11

no matter - I can install the basic gma 950 graphics drivers on my mom's old 2007 Dell Inspiron laptop from ms catalog and then install this guy's unofficial intel graphics feature pack for the gma 950, which adds the intel graphics properties app. maybe check from that guy to see if he has a specific intel graphics feature pack for your intel hardware :-)

From my experience - most drivers made for Windows 10 - seem to be working just fine with Windows 11 (after all - it's more like Windows 10 with a major patch on top - than a new OS). Then again - Windows 11 (same can be said about Windows 10 or 8) - is more like 2 OS in 1 (a mix of Windows 7 + Windows 10/11 + some remnants of older versions of Windows - if not all). Well, officially... the support goes even further then Windows 7 - back to Windows Vista. Thus, the Vista drivers that work with Windows 10 - might work with windows 11 as well. :)

The point was I didn't need any third-party drivers! Creative's worked. No need for Daniel K's drivers!

And yes, I familiar with Daniel K :-)

Speaking of Creative, any sound card from Audigy and newer has at least Vista 64-bit drivers, so it should work at Windows 10/11 with the Vista 64-bit driver or newer. Before my Creative Audigy died I had it installed in Windows 10 64-bit and also had installed all other Creative's software. I even had installed one that restores EAX functionality in games. Older Creative cards such as my SoundBlaster 1024 don't have Vista drivers, the Windows XP drivers obviously cannot be installed in Windows 64-bit, so I use the KX Project custom drivers (if I have spelled it correctly).

Xonar U3(older usb portable card) audio center doesn't work anymore with 22h2. Driver still works but Audio Center prompts asking for device then exits. I used it for Dolby Digital Live and S/PDIF to my receiver. Driver is from 2015 for Windows 10. Uni drivers doesn't work for this device sadly.

These symptoms suggest that the sound card driver has been replaced by Windows Update. The Xonar software expects specific driver version and if this is different cannot properly detect the card. Back in the analog TV days I had a Pinnacle Studio PCTV PCI tuner. If you Installed its own drivers you could control the TV card from Pinnacle Vision. Unfortunately there were no Pinnacle drivers for Windows Vista 64-bit or higher, so I had installed the generic 64-bit BT848 TV tuners drivers. I couldn't use Pinnacle Vision anyone, but fortunately VirtualDub, Nero Video and other video applications could use the card without any issue. So for your case, just install the official Asus Xonar drivers to restore functionality of the Xonar software.

Unfortunately that didn't work. It seems something in 22h2 broke Audio Center software in the driver which is needed for some features such as Dolby Digital Live. I've tried it on 2 computers running Win 11 22h2. It worked up until 21h2. Asus probably needs to update their software but that will probably never happen.

I recently had a weird case with a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 3rd generation USB audio card. It would play fine for about 20-25 minutes and then it would lag and the audio would go out of sync with the picture. When watching a YouTube video for example you would see a man saying something and the actual sound was heard 1-2 seconds later. Also if you paused the video the picture was frozen but the sound was still heard for about 1-2 seconds until it reached the same time point. I tried to update drivers, to change power settings so the computer would not sleep or suspend USB devices. Nothing worked except a new Windows installation. I am afraid you might be in the same situation. To find out replace your hard disk with a spare and do a new Windows installation. If the problem fixes you may start backing up your data... Sorry to bring you the bad news but I am trying to save you time investigating the cause.
