When installed you will find KB5086672 under the update history button. (Same as in Windows update) What does Winver say? 26200.8117? If so then it is installed. As matter of that Realtek device; It is pending since 2018. Can't image that this update is relevant anymore. We are 8 years later. I am sure that there is a much newer version out now by now. I would (if possible) delete those pending updates. They went wrong for some reason and unknown is why it is still pending.. Let them try again then if needed.

Did not knew about that Update Manager. Obtained it from Github. Gives a nice overview. It can see a failed attempt that somewhat later installed successful. Windows history just says "Installed". Did not know that 1 failed attempt was made before it. (See my attachment)
My attachment: You look at a reasonable clean slate here. Before 8117 I did a In-Place-Installment. Did that because I could not het rid of 380Mb of old MS update files that by all means could not cleaned up even by MS cleanmgr itself. (Is using The TrustedInstaller and did not produce any errors. It just did not do it's job)

You can't block updates. You can postpone them; you have to turn off "Getting new updates" and postpone to a max of 5 weeks. In normal updates there are no device related updates. They are updating generic MS drivers, replacing MS programs etc. No stuff from Realtek, ASUS of Intel. They may arrive but these can be found under driver-updates in the update history. Not a real full-blown manufacturer update but only the essentials to keep things inside Windows working. Anything else must come from the manufacturers. You can use IOBit Driver Booster to take a look at what it sees (driver versions) It will go online and checks if there is a newer driver in it's database. If there is; you get the oppertunity to update the driver. You can use the trialrun version for free.

Winver said 26200.8117 when KB5086672 was installed. I've uninstalled it, so it says 26200.8037.

It seems that Realtek driver is pending since March 30th. I've never seen it before. It is installed each time KB5086672 is installed. I don't want it since it is buggy. This is why I would like to block this driver (not KB5086672).

When uninstalled; it's correct. That would show 26200.8037.
(Same as the new version (as of March) you can download at MS of the 25H2 ISO. Called "Win11_25H2_<Lang>_x64_v2.iso")

I would not bother to install KB5086672 on a later basis. (will be succeeded anyways) A preview update was 8116. There where issues (MS account) with it. Intended to be fixed with OOB 8117, it did, but that build came with some more bugs. I would wait until the next (real) update. Will be >8117. Will arrive later this month. (I think) Into the mean time keep working with 26200.8037. That build does not seems to have issues. I wil be weary at any future preview updates. Never saw a bad one like 8116 and 8117 before.

Like I said, some non-Realtek audio cards are detected as Realtek because of weird hardware IDs. Windows automatically install Realtek drivers which appear functional in Device Manager but produce distorted sound or most likely no sound at all. I have seen that before. Once you remove the Realtek software and install the proper audio drivers from manufacturer the sound is OK. This is why I insist to install official drivers. You maximize compatibility and performance. Windows Update should be the last resort.

I do have a Realtek audio card, and in my case the driver provided by Microsoft works better than the one from manufacturer (Dell).

On another computer I just see this audio update. No Realtek here (VMware Workstation). It is not listed on my 26200.8037 machine, and was not listed either when it was 26200.8117.

I tried installing KB5086672 again while excluding the Realtek HD Audio device ID, but that didn't fix the problem.
There are two issues here:
  • The device was still updated (10.0.26100.8117) even though I had checked the box "Also apply to matching devices that are already installed." That said, the "Prevent installation of devices that match any of these device IDs" setting works correctly because if I remove the Realtek device, it isn't reinstalled (but becomes a device with a warning icon).
  • The "Realtek Semiconductor" device is still listed in WAU Manager, which means it's not the one that's installed—it's the Microsoft one.
So I'm going to uninstall KB5086672 again and think about what to do next (probably nothing).

Once you get your system working properly again use WAU Manager to hide (block) any suspicious updates. If unsure block them all. They will be replaced anyway. I was 8037 and installed an update, I think it was optional, and now have 8039. I haven't checked recently.

8117 is not listed in WAU Manager (maybe because it is in manual mode).

If it is already downloaded or installed, it won't show. You can try to clear Windows Update cache and search again.

If it is not installed yet, it should show in WAU Manager, unless you have already hidden it. I would postpone updates at least for a week, just in case and hope that a newer update will be available rendering that obsolete.

PS: I think there is a newer update already. Check the last one in the list in my screenshot:

In that case, clear update cache and search again. I just confirmed it, I am on build 8039 yet, I haven't installed 8117. Maybe it is available for certain computers only? Mine is an unsupported 3rd generation Intel Core-i7 (2nd system specs). To be on the safe side, DON'T try to install 8246 from Windows Update. Manually download and install it from Microsoft Update Catalog. This should make 8117 obsolete and Windows Update won't install it and screw your system.

26200.8117 is not listed in WAU Manager and is not installed nor downloaded.

Anyway, I just installed KB5083769 (26200.8246) and I'm having the exact same audio issue.

KB5083769 is listed in WAU Manager. This means that optionnal updates are not listed, whereas mandatory ("automatic") ones are.

Open Device Manager, see which files the driver uses and copy-paste all of them in another folder. Install the update and then manually replace the faulty driver with the saved. This should allow you to get the latest build without the associated audio issues. In fact I might also do that before I install the update, just in case. Have you tried to return to the previous driver option?

I will try save and replace files.

I'm unable to return to the previous driver as the button is grayed (post #55).

I thought it was the second option. My French is a bit rusty. We did French lessons at High School, I didn't get a certificate, but I can read and understand many words.
