Battery shock symbol

Hi guys,

I have experienced this on two different laptops now and don't know what is going on.

Basically what happens is that the charger is in the battery and charging, however a hazard shock symbol appears and it can go down from 100% to 99% whilst plugged in and charging. I also suspect it is what is making my games lag on both laptops by both very different brands. Any ideas?

The 'shock' symbol is not indicating a hazard, it is just telling you that the charger is plugged in. That 'plugged in' symbol must have changed recently, as I recall it used to look like a mains lead. It can be seen more clearly if you look in Settings

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

Click on "My Computers" below and you can see my computers. My Dell XPS 15 is fast and I definitely don't experience any lag.

The 'plugged in' symbol was different in 21H2, it was a power cord. Have you recently updated from 21H2 to 22H2?

In addition to what was noted, it is normal for the battery level to drop off of the 100% mark. In fact, the user guide for one of my laptops notes that this and states that it is normal for if to drop several percent even while on AC power. This has to do with how the charging circuit works because Li-Ion batteries do not like being at 100% constantly. It shortens their overall lifespan.

I think that 22H2 makes gaming lag more than 21H2 on both an Alienware M17 and an Asus Rog Z13

I pressed Fn+F7, switch to Alienware On-Screen performance mode. And it works!!

Pardon? You mean project the screen without connecting wire? I think that will perform worse because of bandwidth bottleneck. I tried once with my PC while using RTX 3090, the frame rate, the contrast, or lag somehow. Fortunately, I solved it!! Though, the engineers are doing their research, I...
