Best PC optimiser?

Are some of my drivers not the very latest available? Probably. Do I care? No. Why?
Interesting, yet people do care about the latest windows updates. Driver updates fix security vulnerabilities as well.
But I do update drivers when they are offered by WU.
Windows 10 uses Realtek LAN driver from 2015, unless updated manually, it causes many issues, but Windows will not update it.

But I'm not having any issues so why should I seek a solution to a problem I don't have?

And if I do have a problem, I am going to go to only three sources to fix it: Microsoft, the manufacturer of the computer (if not homebuilt), or the manufacturer of the component with the problem.

Thanks William. I have installed Glary Utilities which seems to be highly recommended on many forums and reviews. It seems quite straight forward but I still won't get it to amend the registry.

When people bring me a PC or laptop and I wait 5 minutes for a page, program or internet to load, I use:
Code:
CCleaner
First Aid Registry 11
Ace Utilities

After that, I install "Revo Uninstaller Pro" and uninstall all the junk that has been crammed in there over the years.

I have been using it for 10 years. After cleaning, when 3 programs can be started at the same time, I use:

PCHelpSoft Driver Updater, the most versatile OS management and maintenance program and download the latest drivers.

I will teach people how to handle these programs and they will come again in a year.

I only asked for advice because 22H2 is flagging up a driver error that is stopping it from installing. Why do these discussions often turn into an argument. BTW it still won't update.

What driver and what error?
Oh dear. That was another thread. At 90% installation, I get blue screen with INVALID DATA ACCESS TRAP. It happens with the 2nd reboot during data migration. The code is 0xc1900101-ox4000D which MS and several other sites tell me it is driver related, which is why I started this thread asking for driver utilities. With the help of Driver Easy which someone in this thread recommended, I believe all the drivers on the sytem are now updated but I still get the error. In the earlier thread, we finished it with the option of a clean reinstall of W11 but the reconfigueration of all my software is several hours work. However it still appears that a clean install will be my only option. For now, I will do without 22H2. I admit defeat.

The AMD chipset needed new drivers but that's all.
What a good idea to contact PCS. Strangely I never thought of that.

If you have problems installing a new OS, the last thing you want to be doing is updating all the drivers. You are quite likely to create new problems. I speak from experience of update utilities which have installed incompatible drivers.

What choice is there when MS flags up a driver problem. All the drivers I have installed are direct from manufacturers and are fine.

I only used a utility to find what was out of date, not for installing. So far, you are the only person to suggest uninstall and reinstall of drivers. Is that likely to work? Surely it is still the same driver hence no change.

It can fix a corrupted driver. Have you run the Windows Update Troubleshooter? Have you looked to see if 'optional updates' includes any drivers?
When I have had driver problems, I uninstall the device and its driver and then let Device Manager find the correct driver. Often it will be the same one, but not always.

Try disabling your network card as well. That worked for some with your error code.

I only used a utility to find what was out of date, not for installing. So far, you are the only person to suggest uninstall and reinstall of drivers. Is that likely to work? Surely it is still the same driver hence no change.
I'm probably one of the most bigoted Linux advocate on these Forums --but at least I hope I propose solutions on both Windows and Linux.

I've also used Windows for years (although not with a smidgen of the expertise of a load of users here).

Although I can say one thing in common with most "Geeks" - that tinkering around with the OS whatever it is on the whole unless you have good knowledge of how the whole kybosh works is better left to "the Default" options.

Linux does have a major advantage over Windows on software if you are competant to do it --in that the source code for a load of apps is generally available so whatever distro you use then a compilation for your individual system is possible.

This isn't even remotely possible or even desirable for Windows given the sheer variety of hardware and the different subset and skill set of users.

Windows unlike any other OS in history has brought cheap reasonably safe computing to the masses -- who can be against that.

99.9999% of Windows users won't in general have driver problems when updating or installing systems -- in fact probably around 85% of Windows users will never have installed / updated their OS or even security updates for years - and given these stats surely it shows that Windows is a lot more robust and "User friendly" than typical complainers that "Ms is the Evil empire" etc.

Anyway from "A Linux bigot" saying that Windows isn't nearly as bad as a lot who like to say anything corporate is horrible should say something.

I'm not saying that I will be using Windows as my regular day time OS any time soon -- but I'm a lot more optimistic in how the later builds work and the trial free versions of Windows 2022 server show also that Windows server versions can be also fast and efficient.

(Still one major gripe though - any Linux just runs Networking straight OOTB. Windows networking still after all these years needs the skill of Gandalf the Wizard at times to get it all to work across networks with all sorts of mixed non windows devices).

Cheers
jimbo
