Solved Bios Update

I am in complete agreement with @Dru2. I don't apply it the day a new bios is released, but usually give it a few weeks but I do apply all of them. As with any update there is always a lot of gray area in the description so the thinking of "only apply update if it applies to your issue" doesn't always hold water. Not long ago Event logs showed I was getting a lot of kernel power errors which I narrowed down to sleep. I updated the bios and the errors went away. Nowhere in the description was there anything to lead me to think the update fixed a sleep issue, but it did.

And CPU microcode updates often contain security fixes for the likes of Spectre vulnerabilities. Also, the BIOS update for Intel boards may also update the Intel Management Engine, which is a small independent OS (microkernel) running in your chipset. This also gets security patches for vulnerabilities. Many of these vulnerabilities require physical access to your computer, so aren't critical for home users, but there are a few that you want to patch, particularly the Spectre variants.

I for one will update BIOS, even beta - I have a board that can recover from most BIOS failures (including a power glitch). But I can understand the hesitancy.

You are missing the entire point.
Just saying we should not tell everyone it is always ok to update the Bios specially to those people who come here to ask about it. We update our bios because we know what we are doing. But we shouldn't tell all the regular Joes out there to do the same. Our hardware is not the same as theirs.
