Broken Web / URL Associations

I installed Nilesoft Shell and as soon as I did Explorer restarted and my url shortcuts on the desktop were broken. The icons were changed to a blank white image. If I click on any of them, it takes me to a PRINT dialog. I can also no longer drag and drop a web page onto the desktop - it creates the same blank shortcut that goes to a print dialog. I uninstalled the app, but the association remains broken.

Any help in restoring the ability to have url shortcuts on the desktop will be greatly appreciated. (I can restore an image from yesterday, but it's a new system and I've installed a lot of apps since then and would prefer not to do that).

Shell is a portable utility, so you don’t need to install anything on your PC. All settings are loaded from config file "shell.nss".

Delete shell.nss file.

Sigh. It was NOT a portable version. I installed it and after the problem arose I uninstalled it. Thanks anyway.

I have never used this app i suggest you delete "C:\Program Files\Nilesoft Shell\shell.nss" file and reboot your system hopefully this will restore everything to default.

One must be proactive and create an image before such 3rd party software is used.. When using any GUI altering software, that software alters the registry. Since it dosn't appear you made onebetween installing applications and using Nilesoft, you can try system restore If a restore point was created immediately prior or restore the image you have and reinstall your software all over again.

Was wondering, if you had a VM, can you test properly ahead of time?
