I see there is a fix VSS or disable VSS under the Help button (Macrium ) but I need to close before I can get to it.
Macrium is showing progress at 100%
and the target SSD is idle

The only time I tried cloning a drive I had to give up after a few attempts 😂 Would it be as time consuming to just reinstall all the programs if you just did a clean install? Most activation codes are by email or logging into an account these days. I have all mine saved in email. Some don't even need activating. Is it just programs and not files on the c drive?

Or rather than cloning the drive, would it not work just to image the drive to the external one?

OK, my mistake - at the bottom, it shows disk 103 with 11 free - but at the top 67 'used' and 53 allocated. The numbers don't add up - unless Treesize is hiding some (hidden, system?) files, perhaps? And if NTFS compression is being used, there should be even more free space. Can Treesize be run as admin? If not, I would try Wiztree, which appears to show everything when run as admin.

I also note that system vol info shows zero bytes, suggesting it is not being scanned at all. Mine is 5MB (I know, tiny, shown by Wiztree) but I don't use System Restore. And that shows as zero under explorer. I wonder if Lizzrd has a lot of space used by restore points?

This person found 96GB of 'system recovery' data - on a Dell, again - which may be hidden from Lizzrd if not running as admin.

OMG , ran the fix VSS in Macrium before I shut it down and switched the NVMe SSd and it fired right up without a boot USB.
Not sure if the fix worked , and not sure if my rescue USB works , but my desktop seems to be working , so first beer is opened !
Really appreciate all the help along the way .

I did do a Image to an external HD and either it didn't work, maybe by my error or my rescue USB didn't work to see if it did.
I may revisit that process sometime.

Check the tutorials here on cloning. If there's nothing on that stick of NVMe I would recommend cloning your existing OS to that M.2 SSD pronto. I am guessing that you are concerned about your personal files and data. Always be certain that the PC is completely turned off before removing or adding a drive. The drive with the original OS on it must first be removed before you can boot to your newly installed clone. You do not need to clone to an external drive. Once you have the cloned drive in your unit and booting get back to us. I can help you with what to do with the 1TB drive once you get your operating system up and running proper.
