I've never owned a cell, smart, brick, bag whatever phone. I've always operated strictly land line. I probably wouldn't even comment on this thread if it were not for people bringing me their phones to fix. I won't do it. I used to retrieve data from them such as pictures and what not. Of all the mobile phones that ever gave me trouble with this it was the i-phones. I can only speak from my personal experience. I don't rule out that this could vary around the globe but for what it's worth there it is.

Gave Dell touch screen with Windows 11 to daughter and got me an OTVOC. Being a PC builder I own many desktop PCs as well. I am a father of five providing PCs, laptops, and tablets for all my family, most of which I have modified, rebuilt, or simply built from scratch. I do not own a cell phone, never have, never will.

This is a remote desktop connection and seems to work well. Basically same as android RDP app. However (I could be wrong) I cannot see any way of transferring files to/from iphone/windows.

Landlines are no use in an emergency if not at home (and in UK going fully digital soon, will not work at home if a power cut).

Even if you get the most basic mobile phone, it could save your life. Still your cholce.

Windows app was formally known as the RDP app. They fixed it and changed the name.

I use different apps for different processes, which doesn't at all bother me because all the apps have good uses.

Simple Transfer Pro for organising images (and video)
iTunes to add music to playlists and I use iTunes to add videos to VLC. Make encrypted backups, sync outlook etc
File Explorer for quick access to any files I have downloaded
Windows App because I am too lazy to get out of my sloth chair and walk 40 steps to my PC

Yup. User preference prevails. We still have cable which is about as close to a landline as one can get to here. Technically, it's still a land line. If I could get good ole copper analog I would. Those Trekkie flip phones did catch my eye once. I thought they were amusing. Howbeit if I croak I won't be found dead on a phone. The authorities won't get to me in time to draw a fine looking chalk line around my flip phone tightly clenched in my fist. I'll take my chances as I'm going the way of the dinos regardless. 😎

For a little over $20 US per mo unlimited calling and no caps for the continent of North America I really can't complain. I don't quite get a full Gbps on the down but it comes close. Hardly enough incentive to switch to fiber. Perhaps one day that will change.
