Cannot Force 24H2 Update

Hi everyone. I have tried two methods that are meant to force the update. Neither of them worked -



(For the lower thread search for "From another thread. Worked for me."

Is there any other way to get it going? I don't want to do an inplace upgrade as it can lead to problems.

You are avoiding the simplest (and most robust) method based on some vague statement about it can lead to problems.

Clarify why you think you should not use it . Sounds like you are just going on hearsay.

Safest solution is to make an image backup of 23H2 and do install upgrade knowing you can revert if you get issues.

This assumes your pc is windows 11 compatible which you have not stated.

Remember to make a backup of 23H2, first.

With a compliant PC, just download latest ISO from Microsoft, mount it (open with File Explorer) and run Setup. There is a setting not to use updates during installation, but I would disconnect from the internet to make sure my working drivers are not replaced.

If your computer is unsupported, but the CPU has the SSE4.2 instruction set, download the ISO, mount it, disconnect from the internet, press WIN+R to open a Run window and execute this command:

D:\setup /product server

Replace D with the appropriate letter for the virtual DVD, see File Explorer which it is. You can also download the latest 4.6 Beta version of Rufus and create a USB flash drive that bypasses compatibility check and run Setup from there. In any case disconnect from the internet until the upgrade is complete. Also see "Let's install Windows 11 on unsupported computers" thread.

I ended up doing an in-place install. The only thing I noticed is that Macrium Reflect forgot its serial number.

Same thing happened to me, had to re-enter the key, Macrium obviously thought it was being used on another machine.
