I recently bought a new pc and performed a free upgrade from pre-installed Windows 10 home to Windows 11 home.
Everthing went smoothly...but i want to remove my email address from logon screen as i am administrator...it is just bugging me.
I know Windows 11 home does not have Group Policy option so i downloaded a Gpedit.msc tool from legal source and added a registry entry which makes
Group Policy appear in control panel...opened and enabled 'Block user email address, account name etc' from showing on logon on screen.
Rebooted pc but email address still shows ....is this because Gpedit.msc tool does not work?
The email address was used for Microsoft local account. Then i went into settings and opened Accounts and turned the toggle to show email, account name to off....this option did not work either.

Have i missed a step somewhere ?

Thank you

This is confusing - there isno such thing as a Microsoft Local Account.

You either have a Microsoft account or a local account.

Toggle off option does not do anything hence i tried Gpedit.msc tool which did solve the issue either.

Thanks for reply,

One of many issues us oldies face is we forget things....like i have...anyway i created a Microsoft account not a local account...so i created one with a new password and username. Now, when i reboot a new created username appears when password prompt box appears.

All i have to do is to not have to password prompt box appear which i know how to disable.

I can relate. One of the [other] many issues us oldies face is many people these think one dimensionally and see things as only black and white. They have little or no patience with others who are not like-minded as themselves.

How did you disable the prompt box?

Senility is my constant companion these days so when I set up this PC new back in August, I have absolutely no idea how I did it. My given name is on the login screen with my account picture yet the first 5 letters of my MS account is what shows under C:\Users. I login with my MS account password. So it can be done but until Sometimers releases his hold on me and lets me remember what I did, I can't tell you.
What was the question again????:eek1:

LOL. I have the same problem. Are you using Pro or Home? I think we have more options with Pro than Home.

@Fourthcar From what I've read, gpedit.msc in Home version is not very functional and is hit and miss in actually applying any changes.
Here's a quote from ghacks "simply enabling the utility only lets you access the GPEDIT console's interface, it does not apply the changes for the policy settings (at least not for the ones I tried to modify)"

The only way to guarantee your changes work is to be using Pro as it is one of Pro's selling points. It's stupid, really, but they gotta make extra $ somewhere. I'll bet as time goes on, with all the restrictions MS is putting on Home users, it will not work in any capacity. Just my opinion.

How can women expect equality if they do not practice it themselves?

Being proctalgic is not gender related.

Hey, don't go throwin' them big words around here. You made me go look it up. This old gal was never concerned too much about equality 'cept when it came to that paycheck. I would like to introduce you to my husband sometime. 55 yrs. with that man has left an impression. His name is Shirley. ;-)

If you have a Microsoft Account the following method will not work...you have to create a Local Account.
( Now, i am above novice when it comes to Pc's and i learnt through mistakes...ie re-installing again and again and Pc forums and doing
a lot of reading and research online.)

Right...to get rid of Password prompt..i went into the Registry and navigated to the following key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE_SOFTWARE\Micosoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Passwordless\Device

In the Right Hand Pane window look for DevicePassworldlessBuildVersion DWORD

The value of DWORD should be 2 on your system ...click on this and change value to 0

Type Run from start menu and enter netplwiz. This will open User Account Box uncheck the box marked ' Users must enter a username and password to use this computer' You may have enter password that you currently use and confirm it.

Reboot your pc and password prompt box should not appear. After the initial spinning wheel process your desktop will appear.

The above method worked for me on my windows 10pc and newly purchased windows 11 pc
