Casting Help Needed Please

Casting with Edge works for me but is rather limited.

EdgeCast1.webp

I can stream videos played on YouTube

EdgeCast2.webp

However, I can't stream any other streaming site such as Prime Video.

EdgeCast3.webp

Like I said in a previous post the best option for me is using Miracast. With Miracast I am streaming the whole desktop. That means I can cast anything using any browser or media player.

@dacrone

Why not use an HDMI simple switch when you want to cast from another device - cheap decent ones can also be operated as well by remote -- and are 4K UHD capable. A 2 port switch is enough !!.

Also rather than use chromecast why not use a roku or amazon firestick - install VLC or KODI on to it (you don't need any server stuff on the PC other than allow shared access to the directory / disk which contains your media files) and then sit back and watch your media or listen to it on the remote TV -- plus of course with IPTV software you can live stream anything you like (if you've the license for). VPN's work too so you can watch content that might be geo-blocked or nationally prohibited.

@antspants - why go to all the hassle of doing this on the remote computer - KODI works brilliantly on amazon firesticks / roku sticks. No server etc needs setting up on the remote computer.

Get the firestick into developer mode, sideload kodi and you are "in business"'

Here's what to do for the newer versions :

Once you've done that install kodi simply by using the file downloader(on the firestick !!) and browse to the kodi download website and choose the ARMV7A (the 32 bit android version) it will download the relevant apk file which you can install. Your TV remote works as the cursor or you can use your phone --easier to use the tv remote !!.

The file downloader can be installed normally first as it's a supported amazon app.
Note using Kodi etc allows you to dynamically download subtitles too and have them as you play the media -- free services like opensubtitles.com provide zillions of subtitles.

Cheers
