Looks like its time to try out Wise Care Portable

Wise Care 365 keeps improving, and here are the latest release notes:

1. Improved how the default browser is launched.
2. Enhanced AI functionality - now opens the default browser to explain Windows services. When doing so, the AI only sends the selected service name and publisher information. No other user data is collected or transmitted.

I'm trying out the portable version of WiseCare 365 now. Long time ago I had used the installer and liked the app but it got to bloated with adware and garbage so I switched back to CCleaner. Now version 7 of CCleaner has me switching back to WiseCare lol.

Ever since Avast purchased Piriform, CCleaner has gone downhill. I am currently running v6.39 and plan on staying there for now.

I trashed CCleaner years ago. Ever since Avast purchased it who is now owned by Norton Lifelock the software has gone straight down the sh!tter.

I have version 6.XXX portable. When I launched it, it told me to update to 7.xxx. I did it, thinking it would be the portable version. But no, it installs in the program file.
Version 7 seems to be just a new frontend. Without the ability to prevent it from launching at startup or to close it, it stays in the background with about 7 services and 90MB of memory. The advanced settings are gone. I uninstalled it, and I hope there will be a portable version.

I don't think this will happen with the portable version as they are thinking of not releasing anymore after 6.39.11548.

We know portable matters to some users, so we’re tracking demand through the early rollout. Interest has been lower than expected so far, but we’ll keep monitoring as more people upgrade and factor it into future plans

Some of these apps have really passed their usefulness.

Windows Defender is about as good as it gets these days -- if you need to use this type of app to "clean your system" then IMHO it's time just to do a fresh clean re-install of Windows.

Nothing wrong with great developers developing 3rd party apps whether free or paid for but some of these particularly for domestic (i.e non business) computers are basically addressing a C20 problem which in C21 doesn't exist.

I'd worry more about plain ordinary "Scamming" and it seems these days younger people who are incessantly on their phones posting personal details on social media sites etc are now getting scammed far more than older folk. I often have to tell younger kids how to handle online stuff and protect their bank accounts-- and I'm not exactly a "spring chicken" any more.

(As a private pilot - it's akin to somebody telling me -- there's a defect in the plane but please fix it while it's in the air!!!" No thanks !!!!!

Thanks to @Josey Wales the warning about CCleaner and @KevTech (post 2) for the hint to download the portable and only keep 2 files the ccleaner64 executable and the portable.dat file. I used Revouninstaller to remove the CCleaner 7 and use the pared down portable version 6.39 and will stay there. I'm not familiar enough with the alternatives suggested in this thread and so will keep the old 6.39 version of Ccleaner. Thanks again!!!!!!!

Mines not up for renewal until December, I just did the Revo UnInstaller and uninstalled version seven, reinstall the latest version before seven and uncheck the update box.

I cancelled my Ccleaner subscription about 3 years ago. They then proceeded to spam me frequently for a long time after that trying to persuade me to go back to them. No thanks after the 'hard sell' tactics, never again.

I used CCleaner for a while, until myself and several other tech-savvy friends of mine all were hit with unbootable Windows. We don't just nilly-willy choose selections "because it sounds nice", we think about what we're doing and based on knowledge and research on what needs to be done.

I give advice to my friends and anyone else who uses computers to never use CCleaner, as there are other options available that won't put your system into a non-bootable state.

For removing apps completely: Bulk Crap Uninstaller, GEEK Uninstaller, or REVO Uninstaller

For removing unneeded files: DiskMax

One thing I let them know is that there is NEVER a need to "clean your registry" as it doesn't improve performance or stability (unless you go poking around in there yourself without knowing full well what you're doing). I tend to modify my registry only when needed.
