Ever since about a month ago (not certain since which update), I noticed that I can not login to MQL5 community account using the MetaTrader5 application. Login to the same account via a browser works fine.

I've turned off everything related to Windows security without any success. This includes AV and Firewall. All these services work fine under Linux (Windows app emulated under Wine) but fail to login on 2 computers. Same MT5 versions on all 3 machines, so it is not the app that is at fault, but Windows.

What the heck is going on? (See my system specs for further details)

I am not familiar with the apps you mentioned, but I would try to right-click on the shortcut and Run as Administrator, just in case it is related to access rights. Also check if you have the latest version of the apps and update if necessary. Last thing to try is to uninstall the apps, restart and reinstall them. Run the installer as Administrator to make sure it has full access rights to write files and Registry keys.

UPDATE: This is 100% certainly a Windows issue. Can't login to the service on Windows 10 either.

Could this be related to the updated MS certificates? i think I'm still running the old ones...at least I have not yet tried to update these...

I can't do that...it will mess up the apps profile
So if you right-click on the shortcut and Run as Administrator, it will ignore your current profile and try using a new profile? I get it. So until some new Windows update fixes the bug your only option is to use your browser. What about upgrading the app? Is there any new version that might fix the issue?

I'm on latest app version. And it is not the app itself that is the issue. Somerhing in Windows is interfering.

I also need the app to login to the service since the web is useless for the features I use within the app. Source control being one and event calendar another...

I'll try in a VM when I have time. Should enable latest certs...

UPDATE: It seems there is an issue with latest MetaTrader5 build and authorization on Windows specifically. (Since Linux via Wine is fine). I've read reports of VPS setups also fail to login to the community. MT4 is fine and also older MT5 builds...

I will wait for a fix and report back...

I will wait for a fix and report back...
Apparently you can get fixes early if you opt for the beta version.

  • Open MetaTrader 5
  • Go to Help → Updates
  • Enable Beta Version
  • Restart the platform and allow it to update

I've never used MT5, and I wouldn't want to anyway. At my time of life my trading is basically LTBH. CFD's are definitely not my thing.... ;)
Good luck!
CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. 69% of retail investor accounts lose money when trading CFDs with this provider. You should consider whether you understand how CFDs work and whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money.

UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    Info for 2021-2026:
fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

Could it be some issue at the server and they fixed it?
Possible. But it makes no sense since everything worked fine on Linux.
