Apps Change Windows Terminal Language in Windows 11

This tutorial will show you how to change the Windows Terminal language for your account in Windows 10 and Windows 11.

system default language by default, but you can select a preferred language to use in Windows Terminal instead.

Here's How:

1 Open Windows Terminal.

2 Click/tap on the down arrow button on the top bar, and click/tap on Settings Ctrl + , (comma). (see screenshot below)

3 Click/tap on Startup in the left pane. (see screenshot below)

4 Select a language you want to use in the Language drop menu.

Default is the default setting.


5 Click/tap on Save at the bottom right.

6 You will need to close and reopen Windows Terminal to apply.

it is not working, when I try to change language, the installed default language is not even on the list, but languages that are not installed are.

As a test, go back in your language settings like below to see if your system language has all of its optional features installed, and install them if not. Afterwards, check to see how it looks in terminal.

It should not be a problem with UTF-8 :think: or there is way to change terminal to use different coding?

English works fine, it is just characters that normal do not exist in English alphabet talhat are displayed wrong

Windows has three different levels of localization:
- installed Language Pack (most comprehensive, but not updated after RTM)
- installed Language Experience Pack (LXP), a not always completely translated UI experience, but can be updated since it's an UWP package
- UWP apps available on the Store must have self-contained localizations

Terminal is written mostly by MS contributors, but as you can see, language support can vary.

Still, if UTF is used, and I is just string in power shell script that is displayed when statement is true. Is should display correct. Even with language not installed.

The issue isn't whatever encoding is used. Each part of Windows can have their own localization strings, and different fallback behavior when the string is not available.
