Changing system sound volume relative to other sound?

I don’t RECALL having this issue with windows 10, but…

Windows 11 Pro, just updated from Windows 10 Pro.

I’m using the speakers in the monitor, and they work fine. If I’m listening to a youtube webinar, I have the Windows volume set at 35 and that's usually fine with the Youtube volume all the way up or close to that. Or if I’m listening to NPR or something on iHeart radio, I’d leave the Windows volume set at 35 and adjust the volume on the stream to a comfortable level – usually about 40-50% on the stream.

BUT, originally, I couldn’t hear system sounds at all – new email would show up and I couldn’t hear any tone. I did a search, and found an entry that said go into Enhancements and set something – equalization maybe - and that made the system sounds louder. A LOT louder.

NOW, the system sounds are VERY loud.

Currently, I’ve had to turn the Windows volume down to 20, and for iHeart the volume on the stream is all the way up. The system sounds are OK, not too loud now, but if I switch and listen to a webinar on Youtube, I have to shove the Windows volume back up to 35 even with the Youtube volume all the way up, to hear the webinar – and then the system sounds are really loud again…….

I’m not SURE I could have figured out what to do in Windows 10, but I KNOW I have no idea what to do in Windows 11. I can’t even find the screen where it told me to go into enhancements…

How do I set the volume just for the system sounds WITHOUT screwing up everything else? I’d MUCH prefer to have the Windows volume at 35 and my various listening sources adjusted but I need to turn the system sounds down to a reasonable level. Kinda like Goldilocks (though I’m bald) – not to loud, not too soft!

or...

paste C:\WINDOWS\System32\SndVol.exe into a Run Box

Yup, that was what I needed... The Volume Mixer in System>Sound has a System sounds but it says it's for "Apps" and it doesn't appear to do anything. I have the one in the sound mixer you had me start at 16 and it's about right. The system sounds in the System>Sound>Volume Mixer is at 46 and changing it didn't appear to change the sound volume.

Is the sndvol.exe screen no longer connected to the system settings? 'Cause I can't find anything to run it in the Windows 11 settings.

thanks again!

Paste this: ms-settings:apps-volume into a Run Box and press Enter...

Adjust your preferences...

Note:
It's been reported that these settings are finicky, try them out by closing and re-opening the apps to see if they retain your preferences.
Maybe do a reboot as well.

Mixer is broken in Win 11 and as @Edwin I paste sndvol.exe in 'run' to open the legacy mixer then pin to taskbar. Volume works in settings.

The instability some experience could be the result of any number of issues.
Right now, mine are working in a unified manner, but, I've had problems with it before!

There's a neat App in Windows store that makes it easier. Creates a speaker icon in the hidden area of the notification area called Ear Trumpet if you want to try.

Thanks for the replies. I'll try the 3rd party software to see what it does, but so far at least the volumes are OK...
