Windows 11
I am running Hyper V on a Win 11 machine. I have installed few different Linux distros and then deleted them soon after. I was just experimenting. To delete an install, I delete it from Hyper V manager, and then its disk file from a custom location (C:\VM\Hyper-V\...). It seems Hyper V still REMEMBERS all the computer names I have ever used. This prevents me from reusing any computer name because the Linux installer complains that a name already exists on the network. My questions is, how do I clear old computer names from Hyper V? Thanks!

Is it Hyper-V remembering or your network?

Try unplugging your router for two minutes.

Turn off Fast Startup

Then power off your computer as well.

Then plug the router in and wait for two minutes. Then power on the computer again and see if you're still having the same issue or not.

The computer has gone through many power on and off cycles. I have just rebooted the router. The issue remains. My guess is that there are residual configs left behind even though I had removed the install the best way I know how.

Can't you just write in a new name?

I don't use Hyper-V enough to know where it's being stored. I use VMware myself most of the time.

If you start the console are there any machines listed with an old shortcut?

the Linux installer complains that a name already exists on the network.

Look for a 'Forget' button in your router, it may be in the context menu on right click on name.

I am unable to duplicate the problem using HyperV.

I installed a CentOS linux box, called in test1 in hyper-V. Called it test1 in Linux install and logged into it. I had it connected to the default switch.

I then deleted from HyperV. Then went to D:\Hyper-V and deleted the folder test1.

Recreated the test1 box again and it worked just fine.

I have tried to delete the virtual WiFi adapter using Window's device manager, no difference. It turns out, although the error message is printed in bold red letters, it is just a warning. I read somewhere that I can safely ignore it. So I pushed forward, was able to successfully install Linux.
