Clocks change

Assume this is just in the Uk? All tech clocks (computers, phones, heating timer) here change automatically at 1am except the wall clocks in the lounge and kitchen and the car clock. The kitchen clock is a pain to get down and then get it hanging right on it's peg again. Woke up at the same time as usual except the clock said it was an hour earlier. And now it'll be dark early tonight

Just having a whinge as I really don't like it!

Every single clock changed automatically here this morning, if I didn't know that BST was ending, I could have completely missed it.

So you all use daylight savings time over there also and change back and forth? We have to change back to standard time here on November 2nd. I wish they would just stick with standard time year round myself and I don't care if it gets dark earlier but that's just me.

I am in the Netherlands and had to adjust the clocks as well this morning.
Here only those clocks that are driven by the DCF77 transmitter in Frankfurt are setting themselves.
And of course the built-in clocks of my TV, HD-recorder and the computers.
All other clocks have to be set manually. There is no way getting those an automatic setting.
I have been counting: 12 clocks had to be set, for instance of the DECT phones, the alarm clocks etc.
Nothing you can do about it other than buying clocks that can do the job for you.

BTW. I don't know if the Frankfurt DCF77 is usable in the UK. Maybe you will need other standards for the job there.

I forgot about the Dect phone - but probably because it's not working at the moment lol. Had to get a new base unit and it still won't work.

We have a number of analog clocks in the house along with a bunch of lights on mechanical timers. I'll still have to re-set the analog clocks but I recently replaced all of the mechanical timers with Kasa smart plugs and wall switches. All of those will adapt automatically as they are synced with our cellphones thru our wifi network. I would also prefer the same year-round time, standard or DST...it matters not.

Yes we have the kasa smart bulbs and the odd plug. Prefer the bulbs to the plugs now. The plugs were a bit big on an extension lead and blocked other plugs around it. No need to do anything with those. Have a timer set up with alexa for one of them. It's a good way of dimming a light as well.

Interesting I didn't know that - it's always the last week-end in October here. Is it the same all across the US or different in different time zones?

You have Eastern, Central, Mountain, and Pacific Time Zones in the continental US. Oh Alaska and Hawaii have their own time zones as well. Arizona and Hawaii are the only two U.S. states that do not observe daylight saving time.

I remember in childhood where they didn't do the clocks change for about three years and it was great - I've never forgotten it. I really wish they'd just leave it alone!

Unless it has changed recently, a small part of Arizona does observe the daylight savings time.

The only exception in AZ is the Navajo Nation, which does observe DST.

You and I both, seems the older I get the more annoying I find this changing back and forth lol. A few of my clocks will change automatically and are synced to the atomic clock but I literally have clocks in every room including the bathrooms and garage so some have to be done manually. Plus I just don't see a benefit to it and studies show it actually has negative effects on many peoples health.

I don't mind it. Besides, I hate going to work in the morning while it's still dark out, in the winter time, when it's 20° below zero!!!

LOL, well, I'm retired and live in the desert. Last year we hit a record 120° F

It's cold and dark here in winter and even darker with the clocks changing. The further north you go, the less daylight there is in winter. Of course sensible people retire and spend 3 months in spain in the winter!

I have 8 clocks to change. 1. the alarm clock, 2. the mantle clock, 3. the microwave, 4. the kitchen range, 5. the coffee maker, 6. my watch, 7 and 8. the clocks in my Explorer and Ram pickup. All of the other clocks set automatically.
