Apps Completely Disable and Remove Copilot in Windows 11

This tutorial will show you how to completely disable the Windows Copilot preview feature and remove Copilot from the taskbar, Windows Search, and Microsoft Edge for all users in Windows 11 and Windows 10.

Copilot in Windows provides centralized generative AI assistance to your users right from the Windows desktop. Copilot in Windows appears as a side bar docked on the Windows desktop and is designed to help users get things done in Windows. Copilot in Windows can perform common tasks in Windows like changing Windows settings, which makes it different from the browser-based Copilot in Edge. However, both user experiences, Copilot in Windows and Copilot in Edge, can share the same underlying chat provider platform.

This tutorial will no longer work to disable/remove Copilot.

Starting with Windows 11 build 22631.3810 and Windows 10 build 19045.4593 (RP and Beta) Microsoft is evolving the Copilot** experience on Windows as an app that will be pinned to the taskbar. This enables users to get the benefits of a traditional app experience, including the ability to resize, move, and snap the window.

It's not at all.

Disabling Copilot using the method in the tutorial does indeed remove it from the locations mentioned in the information at the top of the tutorial.

Currently, nothing will uninstall Copilot though.

Hmm, it sure does. Odd disabling Copilot would disable Edge Secure DNS like that.

As a workaround, you can enable and use DoT or DoH in Windows 11 below instead. It'll be the same as having Edge Secure DNS set to "Use current service provider".

Go back to 1: Annnd Rinse and Repeat Ad infinitum. Now to uninstall this night mare. There by breaking windows security because it's an insidious program. Just like Internet Exploder was.

Often group policies under "User Configuration" need to be set in both HKCU and HKLM locations to apply to all users.

The only method that I know of that will completely remove that icon requires that the authentic operating system be removed also. This is not impossible. There are several counterfeit operating systems circulating throughout the wonderful world wide web. They all have varying degrees of security and none of them have Microsoft's blessing. At what point Microsoft's Windows is no longer authentic due to excessive tweaking I will not surmise. I do know however that there are operating systems claiming to be Windows that are not actually Microsoft Windows. For legal reasons this forum cannot advocate the use of said Windows and that is fair.

The decision to go rogue is completely at the discretion of the user. Can this icon be removed? Sure it can. Is there a solution? Absolutely. Should you do it? That's your call. Drastic solutions require drastic measures.

Either one is on board with Microsoft or one is not.

I used to "uninstall" Edge but never without consequence and of course a Windows Update would try to reinstall it. Eventually I gave up on disposing of Edge as the tweaking always seemed to be more trouble than it was worth. My main browser is Fire Fox and my main search engine is Start Page.

I uninstalled the Store, Edge and Web Experience Package many Builds ago..., haven't seem 'em since! 🤷‍♂️
I'm not experiencing any dire consequences.
OneDrive always shows up with every new Build, though!

Good to know. I haven't bothered to try it with Win 11 yet although I did follow Brink's instructions on this thread and they appear to work well enough. I do get this in my start up menu though:
