Control Windows 11 Updates

Windows 11
Windows update restarted my PC and trashed a bunch of things I was working on!
I have no problem with Win 11 downloading updates whenever it likes but how to I then get
  1. notification there are updates to be installed
  2. the option to choose when to install them
I don't want to pause them for a week or as I shall probably forget to unpause them!
I merely want to be able to chose when they happen
Used to be able to do that in good old Win7

Go to Windows - settings - windows updates and set active hours to include the times when you are working. Make sure things like 'get me up to date' are turned off. It's all quite simple.

Default is download and notify to install which is what I want but NOT what happened
Oh well we will see.

Sorry I forgot about that - it's such a long time since I set it up.

If set up correctly, and if you have 'Active Hours' set as well, your downloads will be held until you select individual / all updates to apply

However, if you manually 'Check for Updates', ALL available updates will be downloaded and installed regardless of your 'Active Hours'.
