COPY PAST between laptop and desktop - how to?

hello
i frequently need to copy past files and text between computers in same network
i tried powertweaks but does not have the option. even share mouse cannot work...so i use logitech+ that works more of less ok for mouse and keyboard....

but did not found a way to make CTRL C CONTROL V from one to another.

any sugestions?

Attached to my Fritz!Box (internet) router I have a SSD USB drive, that functions a NAT server.
On that server I have a special folder that is called 'Transport'.
When I want to send files or text from one computer or (android) tablet to another, for text I make a simple text file, for files I just write the file to that common folder and grab it from the other device.

So I have nothing to do with entering the other device (which in Windows ever was horrible, especially between different system version) and the common folder is always available.

I don't think that's possible!
Copying the file in that way from one computer to the other computer or to the common folder will be possible, but copying text?
If you can open the textfile on the other computer: yes you might be able to do a CTRL C CTRL V, but that's rather inconvenient, because you might not be sure where you get the text from and where you're copying it to.

Copying files is easy enough - just put files on onedrive and it syncs to both pcs. You still have to manually copy it to target folder though.

Text is more complicated as you would have to put text in a text file.

A more complicated way that might work is to create a Hyper-V VM on remote pc which uses the remote pc hard drive as its storage (rather than a vhdx file).

Then from Hyper-V on local, connect to vm on remote pc, then cut+paste will work between local host and vm.

Basically, you would be using the hyper-v interface as a shared clipboard.

You would need pro on both pcs and be running vm in enhanced mode.

I have never tried this but I think theoretically it would work

You can do same in reverse as well.

Did you enable Copy/Paste for the linked keyboard in Settings?

hey good idea... will try that... usually i use microsoft teams and write a message to myself but logitech option seems good

RDP, NAS, and the cloud all work for me. I don't know about CTRL+C or V. I've not checked them as I rarely use keyboard shortcuts unless I'm in a situation that requires them.. Guess I'm not as much of a puter nerd as everyone else.

My home network only includes my laptop and the upstairs PC. I use RDP to switch between them and Ctrl C and Ctrl V work just fine in both directions. This is fine in a sole user situation but probably not so where there are also other users

For the clipboard you need to sign in to both PCs with the same Microsoft account.

For files, all my PCs have a Temp folder shared out with ntfs permissions and share permissions set to everyone: full control. I copy the file to another PC's Temp share, then on the other PC move it to where I want it.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    Info for 2021-2026:
    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    My SYSTEM FIVE is a Dell Latitude 3190 2-in-1, Pentium Silver N5030, 8GB RAM, 1TB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro, plus Insider Beta, Experimental 263xx and 29xxx builds (and a few others) as a native boot .vhdx.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, 1920x1080 touchscreen, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine. As its new home has an existing digital licence for Pro I've been able to upgrade the migrated OS from Home to Pro.

    My SYSTEM EIGHT is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e (5th gen) type 20LN, Celeron N4120, 8GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, a supported device for Windows 11. Currently running Windows 11 Pro, plus Insider Beta, Experimental 263xx and 29xxx builds as native boot vhdx.
