The AMD Ryzen x5950s are designed to run up to 90 degrees celsius.

On my PC with a i9 13900k and RX 7900 XTX when running stress tests etc. the GPU typically would not run at a higher temperature than the CPU.
My GPU very rarely goes above 70 degrees unless it is heavily overclocked.
Not familiar with AMD always been a Intel person but site you show has it as a cutoff
Max. Operating Temperature (Tjmax) 90°C

Thanks guys. Contacted Scan, waiting on a reply. Hopefully it's nothing serious, maybe just a cooling problem on the CPU.

To add to this thread, the OP's question about the expectation that the GPU should run at more load than the CPU also depends on the resolution games are played at and to an extent the graphical settings/ eye candy enabled.
At 1920 x 1080 the CPU will be doing a lot more of the heavy lifting than at a higher resolution, 2056 x 1440 for example will put more load on the GPU and give the CPU a breather, of course this is pretty much game dependent as well.
An FPS would load the GPU more than the CPU, an RTS style game would load the other way.
The system in my profile is a Scan system, an Intel 12700K cooled by a Corsair 360mm AIO and in FPS games, like Doom Eternal, Ghostwire Tokyo at 1440p barely breaks 45 degrees C but in Minecraft (Java) often hits 65 - 75 due to Minecraft Java's reliance on CPU rather than GPU.
So before changing thermal paste or cooling solution do as previously suggested and check the fan curves, move fans around in the case, move the PC elsewhere for better unrestricted air flow, run the system with different settings etc.

The CPU cooling is the (Corsair Capellix H150i Elite)

What should they be set to as there both set to quite, in the bios and icue software?
I have the same cooler, with an I9-13900K. (I've replaced the fans with quieter ones, but that shouldn't affect the cooler's performance.)

With just Edge open, the highest temperature of the CPU listed by iCue is 34°C ("package" temperature). The coolant temp is about 26C. The fans are set to a custom profile (nearly silent at idle), with the pump set to Extreme.

My secondary system has a 5950X. The cooler on that one is an H115i RGB PRO XT, which has 2 X 140mm fans. It seems to run at about 40°C at idle. (It's not set up as well as the Intel system.)

Maybe you should get as close to idle as you can, but I have the impression that something isn't right with your cooling.

Ya purchased a lot of items of them. Always been good for me in the past.
I recently used Scan to buy a new CPU and motherboard. They dropped the price 2 weeks after buying and gave me a discount on request for the reduced price.

I suspect poor application of thermal compound. I used Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut for my i7-13700K CPU and get an idle temperature 32C using a Noctua NH-D14 cooler.

I contacted Scan and they said its normal to go up to 80C+, I think there is something wrong as you guys said with the cooling or thermal paste. It's only just started doing it this past few days and it was fine before with temps 50 or lower on the CPU and I kept the GPU temps as lower than 70C on demanding games.

It's only normal to exceed 80C at full CPU load not at idle

Idle as in only background apps loaded in the task bar and nothing running (such as programs or games)? and full load as in lots of programs loaded and a game?

Idle would be the PC doing 'nothing' or a light load such as web browsing with a few percent CPU utilisation. I don't find games stress my i7-13700k CPU - even MS Flight Sim 2020 only uses about 30% CPU utilisation but the GPU is flat out. I've only seen 100% utilisation for a period running Cinebench or batch exporting .jpg files from Lightroom.

There's a few things that can cause the CPU temp to get that high.

1. Heavy load. (when at idle, check Task Manager > Performance tab, and see if the CPU is really at idle).
2. Inadequate thermal compound.
3. Wimpy pump in the water cooler.
4. Running the fans too slow.
5. CPU voltage too high.

Here's my (65W) CPU utilization at idle. I have Firefox (4 tabs), AIDA64, and Bitdefender... running.

I changed the fans in bios from standard to ultra, now I'm getting these temps. Max CPU 70C and 69C on the GPU after 1 hour+ on Diablo 4. Does this seem fixed now, I'll test it later with not much loaded (idle).

Diablo 4 set to 1920x1080, quality preset (High)

I'm running the AMD Ryzen 9 5900x. So, the 12 core version, you are on the 5950x, the 16 core version. I am running a dark rock pro 4 air cooler on mine. I'm using whatever thermal paste came with that cooler, so nothing extravagant. I built the system 2.5 years ago. I'm using a Fractal Meshify S2 case, which has 3 x 140mm fans (all 3 pin, DC power). 2 air intakes on the front. 1 exhaust in the back. My case has room for 9 fans total, but I haven't found any need to add any more fans over the past few years with this system.

using Ryzen master, my chip usually idles in the 34-37 C range. Core temp 1.18 shows around 40-41c. My ambient temps in this room this time of year are 22-24C (72 to 75F). I have my asus X570-E gaming mobo fan control set to Standard PWM for my CPU fans.

while I don't have diablo4, I did play a round of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, I run at 2560x1440 at high graphics levels. I have an EVGA 3080 FTW3. My GPU has a slight undervolt applied to limit it's temps and power consumption. My GPU Maxed out at 53C, and my CPU maxed at 75C.

I ran the same test, with my CPU fan profile set to 100% on my CPU. my idle in Core temp dropped to 37c from 40-41c, and my call of duty match put my GPU again at 53C and my CPU max of 72C. So, around 3 degree Celcius drop. But with extra noise. I'm willing to sacrifice the 3C change for a little less noise. So, I set my BIOS back to PWM control and Standard.

why you undervolting it if its temps (assuming call of duty put it under reasonable load) are really reasonable? My 2070super which is running a pretty hefty OC, maxes out temps on a hot day at mid to high 60's after i gave it all clean
