Blurb first then stats and such. I bought an ASUS CG8480 in ~2013 and replaced a couple hard drives after tumbles, then I replaced the graphics card, first to a 970 then more recently to an MSI 3060. This year I figured I'd swap the whole thing up and the other day I picked up a TUF B650-E Wifi, a Ryzen 5 7600X and 32GB of DDR5 5600 Ram (details in profile). Ram is listed as QVL.
Memory Express complimentarily installed the ram and cpu, updated the bios to current stable and checked the memory at time of purchase. I disassembled the original pc, cleaned and reinstalled the 500W power supply an OEM model from the CG8480, P/N DPS-500AB-6 A. I installed the cooler on the board and then slipped the whole thing inside. I installed the graphics card and connected wiring. I started up war thunder on max settings as a quick stress test. I noticed some more consistent framerate and what feels like a more buttery mouse smoothness. I ran userBenchmark's software and got nominal scores with no crashing or framerate problems. I went to sleep.
The next day I started poking around, installed windows 11, which I hadn't been able to because my old motherboard didn't get along with it. I also installed most recent Nvidia drivers and while dragging browser windows from one screen to another or playing War Thunder on one screen and watching a stream on the other experienced crashes of both programs but not windows. I installed updated nvidia drivers after that and those crashes ceased but then I got a fullblown BSOD. I reverted to the old drivers I had installed from February 22, 551.61 but just recently another crash occured, no visible BSOD but Entry Viewer shows the same Kernel 63 error. I was watching a stream and had spent about 6 minutes in a new game, V Rising when the crash occured. I've monitored the temps in the case and the case is 41C and the GPU 63C at heavy load for extended periods.

Edited to add that I installed the AMD SMBus Driver 5.12.0.38 @ the same time as the nvidia drivers.

Specs:
AMD Ryzen 5 7600X
TUF B650-E Wifi
CMK32GX5M2B5600C40 Corsair Vengeance 32GB 16X2
MSI NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 12GB
DPS-500AB-6 A - 500W PSU shipped with ASUS OEM PC 2013
2 Monitors 1@ 165hz, 1@ 60Hz
1 WD SDD @ 1TB
1WD HDD @ 2TB
MA612 CPU Cooler (Supplied thermal paste)
Corsair 3000D case with 2x supplied 120MM fans.

My hunch is the PSU being insufficient or jank, or the HDD is damaged (Though I did run Chkdsk yesterday and it showed healthy.), or my windows 10 install had to be shoehorned so heavily around my old ass motherboard and i7-3770k that it doesn't know what to do with a sensible modern system and is dead inside.

The v2 dump

Appreciate any insight!
Thanks!

I really like these Corsair Shift series PSU's. The cables connect to the side, as opposed to the back. Would work well with your Corsair case.

Here it is in my Antec case. Looks like I need to do some dusting, lol.

Hello @marky0140 and welcome to ElevenForum. :-)

At PCPartpicker, you can change the country at the top right if you need to.

For some reason MS thinks they know more about drivers than the manufacturers.
So they like to include drivers in Windows Updates.
Sometimes this will corrupt already installed drivers.

Short answer...

Do this... (disable)

Then redo the vid card drivers like this...

DDU Instructions - Nvidia
1. Get this program, here: Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) | Wagnardsoft ...get the latest version, and save it to your desktop.
2. Get the DCH/Game Ready vid card driver here, use the Manual Search: Advanced Driver Search | NVIDIA ...save this to your desktop.
Unhook the internet completely.
3. Reboot into Safe Mode and run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) choose the "Highly Recommend Option", and just do what it tells you.
4. After it's done, reboot to normal mode, then just double click the Nvidia driver to install.
[See pics below]. If it want's to reboot, let it.
Rehook the internet.

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 13 years?
The RAM was seen on the QVL.

There were two BSOD seen on new windows installation.

Bugchecks were:

Run Tuneup plus > post a share link

Run Furmark for 30 minutes (see warnings to abort testing)

Record the Temp max, test duration, and post an image or share link.

For new BSOD post a new V2 share link into the newest post.

That's my hunch too. Get a new PSU, 850W minimum.
PSU ordered. It'll be here thursday.
Do this... (disable)

Then redo the vid card drivers like this...
Completed, reinstalled the Feb 22 drivers as they're the last stable drivers.

Run Tuneup plus > post a share link

^Tuneup log
Ran Furmark as instructed, 64C 56FPS LOW, 71FPS AVG, 72FPS HIGH. Forgot to take a screenshot but image appeared normal, fuzzy eye of sauron, no artifacts.

Just had a BSOD however about 5 minutes after it finished as I was writing this post V1.
^V2 Log for that one.

Still might be the PSU. Crash occurred while typing in browser window.

I heard beeps during the Furmark test. Not dissimilar to windows alert noises or even bios posting noises. I could run it again to recreate and try to narrow that down if possible.

Thanks for all your help so far!

Mark.

Other potentially useful information I can think of:

I had an account activation issue upon Windows 11 install where Windows wouldn't recognize the activation. I went into registry, found the "backup key" and then used the method:
--
Right click CMD
Click Run as adminstrator
At the command prompt, type the following commands:

slmgr.vbs -upk

Hit Enter

this will uninstall the key.
--
I then used my key to activate successfully.

My windows is prompting me to update to 23H2 as well as other updates including
Malicious Software Tool {KB890830)
.Net 2h22 (KB5037591)
Cumulative Windows 11 (KB5037771)

I installed after the update:
wireless
bluetooth
realtek
drivers from here.
As well as the aforementioned SMBus drivers.

Tuneup plus results were good.

The newest BSOD bugcheck was 139.

Please run Memtest86+ for 8 or more continuous passes > take pictures > post images or share links into the newest post

Plan to test overnight and the next day.

The 2 RAM modules (32 GB) can be tested simultaneously or 1 RAM module can be tested in the same DIMM for 8 or more passes.

The more the passes the better the testing conditions.

It sometimes takes passes into the 20's to find malfunctioning RAM.

Just 1 error is a test fail and testing can be aborted.

Please take pictures and post images or share links into the newest post.

Ready to go, will start now and run until 1400 MDT 2000 Z or longer if we haven't reached 8 passes each. o7

Suggestions? Exchange the ram at the retailer? RMA? Troubleshoot?

If they are under warranty then ask for Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA).

Check the motherboard manual to see if there is a preferred DIMM when using only one RAM module.

Then test one RAM module at a time in the same DIMM.

Tested one stick, let it finish a pass successfully then swapped it for the other stick upon which the bios wouldn't post at all. Memory Express in Edmonton is happy to exchange the product, which I'll be doing tomorrow. I'll put the new psu in too, just cause.
I suppose I put too much faith in their "quickmount" service. It is bizarre that their test didn't catch the bad RAM when it's so jank it won't even post, unless they just didn't bother to test it at all, which is possible.

Thanks for all your help zbook et al. I will test the new sticks when I get them. Appreciate the service you guys do here.

Run the computer with only the incompletely tested RAM module > monitor for unexpected shutdowns and restarts.

And /or run Memtest86+ overnight while sleeping.

Make sure that the new RAM modules have the same part number.

Get these sticks... they are 100% compatible... and are listed on your Memory QVL sheet. :-)

In Canada... at Memory Express

Tell them, this is the RAM you want. The ones I linked above... they have.

From your motherboard's Memory QVL...

Make sure you SEE them take it out of a sealed package.

What's worth an extra $40. That's a good point though, to see it's out of a sealed package. I did consider that the GPU test suggested I have about 15-20 C in overclocking.

I've used Corsair RAM... forever. 5 different computers.
I lost faith in Corsair RAM on my previous computer.
I had DDr3 1866Mhz RAM and one stick died... so I RMA'd it.

Corsair didn't even have any more 1866Mhz RAM.
And this was their "good stuff"... the Dominator Platinum.

That's when I switched to GSkill.

Maybe it costs $40 more cause they still keep up on it.
Or it could be that this Gskill RAM I linked above has lower timings. ^^

Lower timings, at the same frequency... cost a bit more, because the RAM runs faster.

You can get CPU-Z (free) and see what your current RAM's timings are...

This is MY RAM. And these are great timings for 3200Mhz DDR4 RAM...
Image1.png

These are the timings of the 5600Mhz Gskill RAM that I linked above... 28-34-34-89
Those are GREAT timings for 5600Mhz DDR5 RAM.

Get the ZIP version of CPU-Z (that's the portable version, no install required).

Just double click: cpuz_x64.exe to run CPU-Z

Ah, well I'm on board. I was limping my old cobbled together system for so long I hadn't thought I'd be in a position to fiddle with overclocking or being concerned with speed.
Now I'm getting greedy though and I see that the store I'm headed to has 6000Mhz non RGB Z5 Gskill ram for cheaper than the one you posted.
It is not on the QVL list. Is this a deal breaker? Or is it cheaper because of the 30CL vs 28CL

That's not the same RAM as I linked above...
This RAM "is" on your QVL list...

This is a screenshot of part of your QVL list... (that $199 price is the price at the ASUS store, not at Memory Express)

Image1.png

Here's all the Gskill RAM on your QVL list...
Just copy any of those part numbers, and search for it at Memory Express.
Remember: For the same frequency (Mhz), the RAM with the lower timings, is faster.

Image1.png

I picked 5600Mhz, cause that's what is listed in your current build.

Note: At the ASUS website, when you sort (with the sorting tools), through the memory QVL... there's TWO Gskills listed.
Gskill and G.Skill... they're both the same company. It's just a mistake by ASUS.
You need to select both Gskills to see the full list. :/

In their natural state... your motherboard and your CPU only support up to 5200Mhz RAM.
Any RAM with a higher frequency is considered... overclocked.

This is from your motherboard specs...

Memory FeatureDDR5 8000+(OC)/7800(OC)/7600 (OC)/7200(OC)/7000(OC)/6800(OC)/6600(OC)/6400(OC)/ 6200(OC)/6000(OC)/5800(OC)/5600(OC)/5400(OC)/5200/5000/4800 ECC and Non-ECC, Un-buffered Memory*
Dual Channel Memory Architecture
Supports AMD EXTended Profiles for Overclocking (EXPO)

And this is from your CPU specs...

Memory controller
Memory channels (total): 2
Supported memory: DDR5-5200
ECC supported: Yes

The further you get above 5200Mhz, the harder it will be to keep the RAM... stable.
