Custom Cursors

It is such a good and helpful thing that you are testing out the cursor sets in both versions of Windows to see if there are any incompatibility issues or visual problems. For me, there are no problems with custom cursors. If you find any issues, please report them to Microsoft using the Windows Feedback Hub.

The only problem is, both the versions are Insider. 10 has RP (I can't change it to Beta), and 11 has Dev. I can't use Beta, it will take me to RP and go back to Windows 10 because of the rare TPM chip that my motherboard does not have, and it so expensive. Just testing if Linux can use custom cursors.

I know that Windows 11 is Windows 10 under the hood. For now it is like that, but that is subject to change when Windows 11 is about to be released. When Windows 11 is released, users like Hopachi and other are going to create dazzling cursor sets for Windows 11. Stay tuned for that.

Some info:
1. Cursor Sets in 10 (or even 8) may work without changes.
2. You can check the cursor by typing control mouse in Run.
3. Installing an cursor set manually (or using an inf file) will work in Windows 11.

I know that cursor sets work in the same way as they do in Windows 8 and 10. However, Microsoft may add more cursor roles into Windows 11. You never know, this may happen.

Hi, new to this thread. I create cursors with RealWorld Cursor Editor like many on this thread (see the same names on their site). I had been editing install.inf files to install my custom cursors, but I'm having problems getting the newer Location and Person mode cursors to work. I noticed that many of you seem to use *.crs files and I assume using RealWorld's ChangeCursor program instead of install.inf.

Now my question: does the ChangeCursor program work in Windows 11? When I try to run it on .crs files that are part of cursor groups uploaded to RealWorld, I get a message that it can't find the file. I run it by right clicking on the .crs file and selecting "Change scheme". Is there another program that runs the .crs files? Is anyone else having issues on Windows 11? I removed the program and reloaded - same issue.

If there's no opportunity to use the .crs files, I'm happy to continue editing install.inf files. When I try to update the install.inf to include Location and Person mode cursors, the install seems to work but when I try to select the scheme in the mouse pointer screen, I get a cryptic error that the Link Select and Location Select cursors are not right. The older cursor types (including the LinkSelect cursor) load fine. The Person Select cursor loads for the LocationSelect cursor. I am then able to manually fix the the Location and Person cursors.

I have attached the install.inf file. I cannot find a reference that explains the structure of the .inf file and I suspect that I have a stupid mistake in there (I took this file from an online reference, I believe in the Tenforums edition of this thread).

Can anyone help?
John

Update: Yep, "%10%" missing on the link select. My install.ini now working. I'd still like to use the *.crs method, if only for a simple application of RW Cursor uploads.

I suggest packing all the cursors of a EXE installer and using the install.inf to install it.

Yes, I can use install.inf from the context menu or, I guess, from an exe installer (haven’t done this but I’ll try. Any preferred program?)

I’d still like to try the *.crs approach. Since I still see RW Cursor uploads with this file, I assume it works for SOMEONE! I will try ChangeCursor on my old Win10 machine.

BTW, thanks for the responses to my post. I appreciate it!

I do not use the install.inf to install the cursors. I use the Windows feature of the Additional Mouse Pointers to manually select my downloaded cursors one by one for each of the cursor roles and then click on Apply followed by OK. That works perfectly well for me. It does take a little longer, but I prefer it that way since this allows me to install the cursors I want for each of the roles.

Yes, I’ve had to revert to that occasionally. It looks like I’ve got install.inf working, it’s just a nuisance to edit it for schemes uploaded with the .crs files. It would seem that there’s no suggestions here yet. I may ask on TenForums.
